The Council of State Governments Membership Engagement Intern (APPA) in Lexington, Kentucky

As the voice of the community corrections industry, the American Probation and Parole Association (APPA) serves as the field's leading professional membership association. Our work is supported by thousands of passionate members throughout the U.S. and Canada, as well as other countries actively involved in strengthening community corrections work. POSITION OVERVIEW

The Membership Engagement Intern supports APPA staff in the critical areas of data management, marketing, and event planning to ensure desired membership growth goals for the organization. This is a paid, part-time position ($15/hour) expected to begin in the fall and continue for nine months.

RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Identifies prospective new members and qualified internal contacts.
  • Writes talking points, and memos to assist with engagement with prospective members.
  • Assists with marketing to current and prospective members.
  • Assists with data integrity and management.
  • Assists with research of membership association best practices.
  • Assists with the development of a membership engagement plan.
  • Other duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Enrollment in an undergraduate or graduate program, preferably in political science, public administration, public policy, journalism, communications or related field required.
  • Experience in professional research, event planning and customer service preferred, but not required.
  • Must possess excellent writing skills & technology skills.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, Teams.
  • Ability to interact effectively with diverse people in different contexts and foster equity and inclusion through self-awareness, cultural sensitivity, and valuing others.
  • Dedication to public service with an unfailing commitment to act with civility, be nonpartisan in performing CSG duties, and be a responsible steward of member and donor funds.
