Summary The incumbent is employed as a journeyman Maintenance & Operations worker at the two division Veterans Administration Medical Center, Lexington, Kentucky, and reports to the M&O General Foreman. Incumbent is normally assigned to one division but is subject to work at the other division on a periodic basis to gain experience with varied systems and foster teamwork, as well as, at any given time, should the need arise. Responsibilities The incumbent selects materials and tools, maintains inventory of supplies, determines techniques and tools required, and coordinates with other services and individuals to ensure patient access to care is uninterrupted. Major duties but not limited to: Engineering receives work requests from different services in the form of work orders, which can consist of assembly/disassembly furniture, replacing ceiling tiles, grounds clean-up. There are set deadlines depending on the priority listed and may be very vague on what's requested. The incumbent is expected to use their knowledge and judgment to determine the best course for repairs.- Activation of buildings, floors, and/or rooms is preparing them for use after the contractors have finished. The incumbent will be responsible for mounting soap, sanitizer, and paper towel dispensers as well as TVs, hygiene dispensers, and any other item that was not part of the contract and falls under activation duties. Will work with the Facility Planner to ensure that all activation items on the activation list have been completed before an area opens for use. The incumbent will need to assist other shops with their work, at times. The work may consist of replacing black, copper, or cast-iron piping, assisting with light replacements, and helping with air handler replacement. EXPERIENCE: A specific length of training and experience is not required, but you must show evidence of training or experience of sufficient scope and quality of your ability to do the work of this position. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: The incumbent will be exposed to working conditions that will require them to be physically fit. This is to include, but not limited to, lifting and carrying heavy furniture, climbing ladders, bending, stooping, working in cramped areas for long periods of time, working while on their back, reaching, and often working in extreme heat or cold.
