*Valvoline Global Operations Headquarters is located in Lexington, KY. We prefer candidates willing to work a hybrid in-office work schedule (3 days per week). We are open to candidates living in nearby markets (i.e. Cincinnati and Louisville), willing to visit 2-3x weekly. *This position offers full relocation package.

How You’ll Make an Impact

As a Director, Marketing - US DIY/Retail, you will lead marketing and brand management teams to deliver sustained, profitable growth for the Valvoline retail business through effective business and marketing strategies. Responsibilities include marketing strategies and programs, promotional development, marketing communications and execution, and oversight of strategic growth objectives. Must be skilled at partnering cross-functionally with sales, analytics, category management, and brand/equity marketing to drive high impact programs that deliver forecast and ideal candidate will have retail experience in the CPG space.

In the role, you would be responsible for:

  • Sales Account Marketing - Serve as primary contact for sales team for any marketing issues, promotional strategy, including building retail presentations. Should be the go to person for sales, recognizing that it may be necessary to coordinate meetings/conversations with Sr. Director of Retail/VP of Equity.

  • Trade Marketing - Work with analytics team to clearly identify top performing promotions by account and develop trade plan recommendation, including pilots of new tactics when required. Partner with sales on implementations. Modify plan as needed to maximize ROI of trade and CP budgets.

  • Media & Messaging Strategy - Define target consumers, identify key insights and leverage them to develop effective marketing strategies that will drive equity, points of difference, and sales/profit across retail customers. Work across the marketing team to develop and optimize best in class marketing executions and communications. Optimize and manage ROI across marketing programs.

  • Promotional Strategy - lead teams to develop unique promotional strategy and implementation plan for key strategic accounts that maximizes ROI and adheres to equity guidelines that creates win-win for Valvoline and our customers.

  • Build Organizational Capability - Grow the capability of the organization by improving processes and approaches, and building organization knowledge in marketing. Grow the capability of direct reports through effective coaching.

  • Portfolio Management and IMP Development – Active participant and partner with the product strategy team to cultivate a 5 Year Innovation Master Plan for motor oils, ATF, Antifreeze, Grease, and Gear Oil

  • Partner with Sales Leadership to Lead Town Halls, National Sales Meeting, and Year-End Celebration – plan and coordinate key events to inspire, educate, recognize, and mobilize DIY employees.

  • Lead strategy and execution of DIY media plan including management of partner agencies, development of media strategies and objectives, targeting, channel choices and optimization.

What You’ll Need

  • Bachelor's degree required

  • 8 years of professional experience, CPG B2C strategic marketing background preferred

  • Demonstrated experience leading teams, brands, initiatives, and new product launches

  • Demonstrated ability to collaborate across a multifunctional organization

  • Strategic Thinker/Data Based - Ability to distill and synchronize various data sources to develop fact-based and strategically sound recommendations for your business

  • Motivational Leader and Influencer - Ability to enroll, energize, and enable a multifunctional team behind growth strategies for your business. Demonstrate seasoned judgment and ability to make brilliant decisions in a timely manner. The ability to handle complexity and numerous priorities/projects, lead by influence across the organization, and build support for strategies/proposals. This role will have direct reports (6).

  • Collaborator / Networker - Demonstrated ability to pull from and leverage diverse thinking, ideas, and viewpoints from across the business to build an optimal solution / approach

  • Business Expert - Builds a mastery of the details for customers, financials, product assortment, competition, consumer and trade initiatives, etc

  • Marketing Expert - Understands how to define consumer and customer targets, identify powerful insights, and build effective marketing campaigns to deliver growth strategies and commitment. Leverages the power and purpose of different media channels including digital and social

  • Team Player - The Valvoline organization has a strong team culture. A successful candidate will embrace the idea that success as a team comes first (and is most rewarding)

  • Organization Builder - Is a thought leader that works “on” the system, not just “in” it

  • Ability to travel (25% annually)

  • Must be authorized to work in the U.S.
