LEWISVILLE-CITY OF Chief Mechanic in Lewisville, Texas

Position Summary

Salary Range:$60,649.73-$67,633.64(hiring range) *Full Range Potential:Up to $86,379.92 *The hiring range represents the starting salary range for new employees based oneducation, experience, certifications, and licenses. However, our full salary range offers additional opportunities for salary growth as employees gain experience, skills and demonstrate performance over time.

Supervises and oversees the daily operation of the Fleet repair facility, City fleet and emergency vehicles and fire apparatus.

Essential Functions
  • Oversees the repair of City vehicles and equipment, inspects completed work, trains and supervises Mechanics and Service Writer, maintain fleet management data base.
  • Coordinate with City departments and divisions, vendors, customers and regulatory agencies.
  • Oversee the maintenance and upkeep of the Fleet facility and equipment.
  • Assist management in the day to day planning and direction.
  • Assign employees on an assigned shift.
  • Report work status and special problems to management.
  • Inspect work in progress.
  • Perform repairs as needed.
  • Keep track of maintenance work on vehicles.
  • Prepare various work related written reports and schedules.
  • Performs all other related duties as assigned.
Position Qualifications

Education

  • High School Diploma or GED

Experience

  • 3 years of experience as a Mechanic.
  • 1 year of supervisory experience.

REQUIRED SKILLS and ABILITIES Knowledge of:

  • Knowledge of automotive, truck, small equipment and heavy equipment repair.
  • Knowledge of maintenance management software.
  • Knowledge of fueling system hardware.
  • Knowledge of computer programs to include word processing and spreadsheets.
  • Knowledge of electronic and electrical systems for troubleshooting and repairing automotive systems, fuel system, and shop equipment and facility problems.
  • Knowledge of regulatory requirements for vehicles, equipment's, maintenance shops, and fuel systems.
  • Knowledge of environmental and regulatory requirements for disposal of fuels, oils, tires, electronics, and other wastes or controlled items.
  • Knowledge of safety practices to be observed in fleet maintenance activities.
  • Knowledge of principles and practices of employee supervision, including selection, training, work evaluation and discipline.

  • Ability to prepare billing and other fleet related reports.
  • Ability to maintain expenditures within budget.
  • Ability to follow direction.
  • Ability to provide advanced training in automotive repair.

Skills:

  • Must possess computer skills to successfully navigate e-mail, Microsoft Office, Open Office or similar word processing program , maintenance management, fuel system, inspection system and other related systems.
  • Skill in advanced repair of automotive, truck, and equipment assets.
  • Skill to operate CDL vehicles, construction equipment, shop tools and equipment, and all other fleet assets.

Other Requirements:

  • Must submit to and pass a pre-employment drug test.
  • Must possess a valid State of Texas Drivers License Class "C" and good driving record as defined by City policy.
  • Must maintain 10 City required Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) certifications and Master EVT certification.
  • Must possess a valid class CDL-A Texas Drivers' License with good driving record within one year.
  • Must possess a State of Texas Department of Public Safety Inspector's License within one year.
Work Hours

Monday-Thursday 7-5 Fri 7-11 , transitioning to 6-5 - 4 days a week.
