The City of Lenexa Fire Department is currently accepting applications for an in office Fire Prevention Customer Service Technician who is proficient with technology and has excellent communication and written skills to join our team.

The ideal candidate is someone that is a highly motivated individual with a creative side who is an independent creative thinker with a drive to excel while working in a dynamic office environment. Organizational and multi-tasking skills are a must have for this position. The ideal candidate enjoys working with others and has a teamwork spirit while managing prevention schedules, activities and databases. Because this position engages with the public, personable customer service experience is a critical component to this position. The position is an integral part of the day to day operations of the fire department prevention division. The ideal candidate would also be willing to become proficient in social media messaging and creative design for organizational publications.

Position Summary

The Fire Prevention Customer Service Technician performs a variety of administrative and support functions and duties related to the Lenexa Fire Department Fire Prevention Division.

Essential Functions, Duties and Responsibilities

  • Assist with the annual fire and life safety inspection program by assigning inspections, tracking completion and managing data to provide insight into the program.

  • Provide fire department data to individuals in accordance with the Kansas Open Records Act (KORA) per city and department policy.

  • Process and maintain fire prevention division records in accordance with established policy in a variety of industry specific software such as EPR Fireworks and The Compliance Engine software.

  • Research and create informational and educational articles, brochures, flyers, social media posts and public service announcements related to fire and life safety and other department activities.

  • Serve as a department liaison to the City of Lenexa Communications department to assist with the maintenance of the fire department webpage.

  • Assist the public with fire department-related permits and certificate of occupancy applications.

  • Assist with the supporting and managing of the public education and the fire investigation teams.

  • Provide information to the public via phone and email on organizational established procedures and requirements as well as answers to fire and life safety related inquiries.

  • Facilitate day-to-day office operations within the prevention division.

    Additional Examples of Work Performed

  • Assist with the planning and execution of the public education activities and programs including the annual LFD Open House, Fire Prevention Month school presentations, other training and event requests. This may require occasionally working evenings and/or weekends for events and programs.

  • Provide input on and order supplies and promotional items for the Prevention Division.

  • Assist with and attend various committee meetings internal and external to the Department

  • Perform other assigned tasks related to fire prevention activities.

  • Operate City-owned vehicles appropriately in accordance with applicable state statutes.

  • Create comprehensive documents that are clear, concise, mechanically correct and completed on time.

  • Assist in the continuous development of the community risk analysis of fire department statistics to determine deficiency needs to create education programs focus.

  • Demonstrate positive employment behavior reflecting support for the Governing Body, City Manager, Management Team and the Fire Chief. Model the City of Lenexa and department mission, vision and values.

    Qualifications

    Minimum: High school diploma or G.E.D. and two (2) years of customer service, office management, or administrative experience. Must possess and maintain a valid driver-s license and insurable driving record.

    Compensation and Benefits

Starting rate of pay for this position is $20.44 to $23.69 per hour dependent on qualifications and directly related experience. The City of Lenexa offers a comprehensive benefits package including:
