Argonne National Laboratory Postdoctoral Appointee in Lemont, Illinois
We invite you to apply for a Postdoctoral Appointee position within our Chemical Sciences and Engineering Division (CSE).
Under the guidance of a supervisor, you will:
Conduct mission-oriented research on battery materials.
Perform systematic experiments to develop a fundamental understanding of processes responsible for system performance and performance degradation through the use of new and existing tools.
Build, test, and analyze data from prototype batteries and their components using a wide variety of laboratory instrumentation.
Elucidate and implement solutions required to enhance the performance, life and safety of battery cells.
Plan and conduct research on battery materials with characterization techniques that include electrochemical, structural, and chemical methods, while adhering to Laboratory and Divisional ESH/QA practices and policies.
Analyze data, prepare manuscripts for submission to peer-reviewed publications, present papers at scientific meetings, and prepare reports, presentations, and papers for group meetings or meeting sponsor reporting requirements.
Develop and maintain laboratory equipment and facilities.
Education and Experience Requirements
We expect you to have:
Considerable experience with electrochemical testing and physicochemical characterization of lithium battery materials and cells.
Considerable knowledge and hands-on experience with a variety of laboratory instrumentation.
Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team to solve problems of scientific and technological interest.
Demonstrated ability to concurrently work on multiple projects.
Strong skills in planning and implementing electrochemical experiments.
Strong skills in the use and maintenance of laboratory equipment.
Strong skills in written and oral communication.
Other desirable skills include prior experience with X-ray characterization techniques, electron microscopy and other approaches to material and battery-cell characterization.
The level of scientific knowledge and sophistication required is normally associated with a Ph.D. in materials engineering, or related engineering or scientific disciplines and 0 years work experience.
