Argonne National Laboratory Postdoctoral Appointee - MSD: Structural Correlations in Spin-orbit Coupled Systems in Lemont, Illinois

The neutron and x-ray scattering group in the Materials Science Division at Argonne National Laboratory has an open position for a postdoctoral appointee. The research will be focused on the study of structural correlations in spin-orbit coupled systems using single crystal diffuse scattering measured at synchrotron x-ray facilities. The data will be analyzed using advanced computational methods, such as machine learning and spectral analysis (3D-ΔPDF), which the candidate will help to develop.

Position Requirements

  • The ideal candidate should possess a solid experimental background in the structural properties of crystalline materials with an aptitude for computational data analysis.

  • A Ph.D. in physics, materials science, chemistry, or strongly related field is required. The candidate should not be more than three years beyond Ph.D.

  • Experience with x-ray or neutron scattering from single crystals will be beneficial, as well as experience in developing and/or using computational methods for analyzing large data sets.

  • Ability to model Argonne’s core values of impact, safety, respect, integrity, and teamwork.
