Your new role, what's involved?

We are seeking a Principal or Associate Transport Planner based in Leeds to:

  • Lead and manage a range of transport projects across our business focusing on active and sustainable travel, business case development and transport strategy. This will include working with our other service lines to deliver large multi-disciplinary projects from concept to delivery.

  • Lead a variety of projects and proposals (both technical and commercial inputs,) to win work, manage resources and deliver high quality outputs in line with client requirements.

  • Undertake a lead role on technical review and checking of deliverables within the team.

  • Be responsible for the financial performance of your projects and contribute to the commercial performance of our team.

  • Support the local and regional leadership in business development, recruitment and team management activities as required.

  • Mentor and coach others across the business including in our resource centre in India to help develop and upskill our people.

You will have an opportunity to work collaboratively with our Net Zero, Future Mobility, Transport Communications and other expertise practice groups on a range of innovative strategies for our public sector clients.

Your Team

Our Leeds Transport Planning Team sits within a wider team of over 100 people across the North, Midlands and Scotland, with close links to our southern transport planning team. We also work closely with our Team Transport colleagues in Strategic Modelling and Liveable Places.

We deliver a wide range of transport planning projects for our clients, as well as an extensive portfolio of multi-disciplinary and cross-sector services, including (but not limited to): active travel solutions; public transport network planning; scheme development and appraisal; business case development and Government funding applications for all types of transport schemes; economic appraisal; carbon appraisal and management; consultation and engagement and transport strategy and policy development.

The broad range of our services allows our staff to develop their own skills and experiences over a wide portfolio of project work, providing both versatility in workload, and career development opportunities. Our clients are from Local Authorities and National Government Organisations. This provides our staff with the opportunity to work in a range of roles, across multiple disciplines, and realise their career aspirations, whatever they may be.

We have a strong regional pipeline of work and the successful applicant will help us to deliver challenging and exciting work for a range of national and regional clients.

We are based at Wellington Place in Leeds City Centre just a short walk from the train station.

We'd love to hear from you if you have:

  • Strong project management skills developed across a range of transport and multi-disciplinary projects.

  • A track record in business development and work winning.

  • Technical expertise leading active and sustainable transport studies, business case development and the development of transport strategies, plans and policies.

  • A track record working with Local Authority and Combined Authority clients.

  • The ability to manage and prioritise multiple projects and tasks to meet deadlines with minimal supervision and ability to adapt approach as necessary dependent on live project requirements

  • Good spoken and written communication skills. Ability to liaise confidently with internal and external colleagues including public sector officials, members of the public and other key project stakeholders
