A Day in the Life

The Medical Affairs Specialist is responsible for reviewing literature, planning & dissemination of evidence, medical evidence gap analysis, facilitating publication committees, reviewing marketing materials, evaluation or facilitation of physician sponsored studies and managing relevant key opinion leaders. This position can serve as the EMEA medical evidence liaison with cross-functional stakeholders including business partners, marketing, reimbursement, global research and clinical study teams, and sales.

In the role, we offer you a diverse position in the Diabetes Clinical Research & Medical Affairs Team, which has the primary mission to generate and disseminate clinical evidence on the safety, efficacy and value of Medtronic Diabetes medical devices. As a Medical Affairs Specialist, you may also serve as the clinical representative on cross-functional core teams, eventually working under general direction to ensure clinical, business, and regulatory requirements are met.

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned:

• Manage External Research Programs (ERPs) for Diabetes EMEA.

• Maintains a deep understanding of the science behind our products.

• Develops competitive intelligence in our product space.

• Drives education and outreach for safe and effective use of our products.

• Develops, implements and oversees integrated evidence-based medical affairs strategic plans for relevant Medtronic organizations.

• Utilizes advanced subject matter expertise to provide medical input to various functions (General Management, Global Strategy & Portfolio Management, Business Development & Licensing, Research & Development, & Marketing) and organizational units to facilitate insightful decision-making and enable achievement of business objectives.

• Ensures effective objective value propositions are developed and articulated for Medtronic technologies to stakeholders (patients, health care providers, payers, government agencies, health technology assessment organizations, public) through appropriate channels.

Required knowledge and experience

• Minimum Master of Science degree or equivalent University degree in life sciences or healthcare

• 2-4 years of experience in project management tied to supporting complex clinical trials, working in global teams within a cross-functional, matrix and multicultural environment

• Fluency in English and availability to travel for approximately a 25% of working time

• Clinical Research or Medical Writing experience at Medtronic or within a medical device industry

• Solid understanding of biostatistics and trial design

• Strong interpersonal, communication skills aimed at representing Medical Affairs in high level Clinical meetings

• Advanced computer skills (e.g., Microsoft Office, Word, Excel and Power Point)
