Applied Physics Laboratory Human Systems Engineer in Laurel, Maryland

Position Description Are you interested in the field of Human Systems Engineering (HSE)? Are you experienced in the fields of psychology, human factors/ cognitive engineering, cyber security, or human performance measurement? If so, we're looking for someone like you to join our team at APL. We are seeking a human factors or cognitive systems engineer to help us apply theory and methodological expertise and HSE to system development and analysis in the cyber domain. Projects would be broadly focused in support of Cyber Operations, Special Operations, Homeland Protection, and National Health mission areas. You would join a multidisciplinary team of scientists who collaborate amongst themselves and with other specialized professionals from diverse fields to accomplish research and development efforts for United States government needs. We provide critical contributions to critical challenges. As a human systems engineer… * Your primary responsibilities will be providing human factors expertise to analyze, review, assess, and make recommendations on human-system design and development, including requirements analysis, task design / redesign, use-case development, functional flow and workload modeling in the cyber domain. * You will work closely with operators and other disciplines to capture performance feedback, teaming tactics, human requirements, technical recommendations, and field test results on a variety of complex systems. * You will lead and participate in multi-organization and multi-discipline working groups to review test results and coordinate analyses. Develop approaches to improve the interaction between the human operators and systems. Coordinate efforts with team members, other staff, and government sponsors. * You will support the development and technical review of systems engineering artifacts accounting for human factors, usability evaluation, cognitive engineering, task analysis, vulnerability, system security, and human systems integration. ## Qualifications You meet our minimum qualifications for the job if you have... * A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Human Systems Engineering, Human Systems Integration, Computer Science or another related field. * At least 3 years of relevant experience, e.g., in requirements analysis and development, experimental design, human performance measurement, and system evaluation. * The ability to work independently and with government and DoD sponsors and interdisciplinary analysis teams. * Excellent oral and written communications skills. * Ability to obtain an Interim Secret level security clearance by your start date and can ultimately obtain a Secret level clearance? If selected, you will be subject to a government security clearance investigation and must meet the requirements for access to classified information. Eligibility requirements include U.S. citizenship. You'll go above and beyond our minimum requirements by having... * A Master's or PhD in Systems Engineering, Human Systems Engineering, Human Systems Integration, Computer Science, or equivalent. * Six years of practical systems engineering experience. * Experience with cybersecurity systems. * Have an active Secret security clearance.
