Nature of Work
Performs mechanical repairs and maintenance on specialty equipment such as High Voltage Electric Vehicle (EV), Hybrid/Electric, Fire apparatus and emergency equipment (Emergency Vehicle Technician EVT). Performs field service calls, troubleshoot electrical and mechanical systems, coordinates work activities, and repairs hydraulic/air/EV components.
Environmental Factors
Work is performed in a warehouse, maintenance facility or out in the field. Exposure to hazards including but not limited to all types of fumes/liquids/chemicals, trash, used syringes, electrical shocks, sharp objects and all types of weather conditions.
Physical Factors Heavy physical demands. Will be required to lift heavy tools and parts up to 45 lbs, pull, climb, stand for long periods of time, lay down and kneel in confined areas with hazardous materials.
Work Situation Factors
Position involves competing demands, performing multiple tasks, working to deadlines, occasional work beyond normal business hours, and responding to customer issues. Regular attendance is an essential function of this job to ensure continuity of services. Position is subject to drug testing in accordance with applicable State and Federal regulations and City of Las Cruces policies.

Duties and Responsibilities
Inspects, repairs, and maintains all components on a variety of diesel, gasoline, electrical powered equipment; performs mechanical work on Heavy Duty EV, Hybrid/Electric, heavy and large equipment, emergency vehicles, and fire safety equipment; operates a wide variety of hand tools and equipment to perform the necessary tasks of the job; demonstrates skill and safety measures and provides support for other mechanics.
Performs troubleshooting/diagnosing of electrical, including but not limited to Multiplex electrical systems, mechanical and hydraulic systems and components; conducts research using computers, diagnostic equipment, manuals and other sources; understands specialty components such as emergency and fire safety components and equipment or high voltage components.
Conducts vehicle safety inspections, provides preventive maintenance, checks fluid levels, checks/adjusts/replace brakes, changes oil, checks and services batteries and charging systems, checks and services cooling systems, and lubricates vehicles and equipment.
Performs repairs on hoses, vehicles, tire changes, and related activities; overhauls, maintains, and repairs engines, transmissions, drive train components, hydraulic and air systems and some specialty components in certain vehicles; eads and interprets manuals and documents relating to service and repair needs.
Performs field service calls to repair general and heavy equipment; transports equipment to and from maintenance and repair shop.
Tests repaired, tuned, and overhauled vehicles and equipment; inspects, analyzes, and evaluates defective equipment; suggests appropriate care, repair, or maintenance procedures.
