HEALTH SUPPORT TECHNICIAN
Your Specific Responsibilities:
Under clinical supervision, the Health Support Technician assists the health care team at a school-based health clinic located in one of five Pinellas County high schools by performing activities and duties related to diagnosis, treatment, and care for the general health status of students including:
Triage patients in accordance with clinic procedures.
Provide first aid and emergency care when needed.
Conduct vision and hearing screenings, and measure height and weight.
Assist with patient discharge instructions.
Perform outreach and education to students to include tobacco use, healthy behaviors, healthy food habits, illegal substances, alcohol, and vaping.
Maintain efficient clinic flow and communicate effectively with the health care team.
Collect specimens and perform lab testing in accordance with guidelines and standard practices.
Provide supervision for the safe and accurate self-administration of medications by students, including administering insulin per policy.
Accurately document clinic visits.
Accurately document time and services administered.
Assist with data collection and reporting activities as assigned.
Maintain a clean, orderly, and antiseptic environment. Turn over rooms after patient visits, wipe down surfaces, and properly dispose of biohazardous waste.
Stock shelves and exam rooms with medical and lab supplies.
Assist with supply inventory and ordering.
Perform other related duties as assigned by supervisor.
Knowledge, Skill, and Abilities Requirements:
Knowledge of clinical functions, basic client care, routine medical, physical and developmental screenings and laboratory tests.
Knowledge of nursing/medical assisting and medical terminology.
Excellent customer service skills.
Excellent teamwork skills and can-do attitude.
Ability to interview students to obtain health histories and to provide health care information.
Ability to keep records, compile data and prepare reports.
Ability to administer emergency care.
Ability to communicate effectively with students, parents and staff.
Ability to operate a personal computer and accompanying software.
Education and Experience Requirements:
Minimum:
High school diploma or GED
Current Florida Medical Assistant or Certified Nursing Assistant certificate/registration
At least 1 year of experience working as a CNA or MA
Current CPR certification
Preferred:
Experience working with adolescents in a clinical setting
Experience obtaining laboratory specimens and preparing them for testing
At least 1 year experience taking vital signs including blood pressure, pulse, respirations, height, and weight
Additional Requirements:
Ability to start work between 6:30 and 7:00 a.m.
This is a 10-month and 40-hour work week position that follows the school schedule. The clinic has limited hours during the summer. Typically all clinic staff return approximately 2.5 weeks prior to school starting in August.

Pinellas Park High School (Primary) and occasionally provide coverage at Boca Ciega, Gibbs, Largo, and Northeast High School clinics.
