Job Overview The Buyer is a critical thinking role that is responsible for handling all purchasing activities related to a specific assigned commodity while leading and/or contributing to improvement and productivity related to projects/activities. The Buyer will be called upon to negotiate with suppliers, drive continuous improvement in supplier performance and collaborate internally to achieve desired business outcomes. Requires a solid foundation of function skills and knowledge in relevant purchasing and sourcing concepts.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Lead point of contact that manages and coordinates fabricated commodities.
  • Identify sources of supply,seek out the lowest total cost alternatives and develop solid working relationships with suppliers.
  • Focus oncost reduction, including creating and preparing cost reduction projects. (maintain positive PPV savings)
  • Responsiblefor on-time delivery (OTD)
  • Works withQuality Assurance (QA) on rejected parts to get resolution or request RMA.
  • Strongnegotiating skills to address conflicts and/or questions concerning pricing, delivery dates, quality and required packaging.
  • Analyze andevaluate materials and products.
  • Handlesprocurements for build-to-print parts after determining price and availability through formal and informal request for quotes. (RFQs)
  • Performstandard purchasing process, review requisitions, and place POs.
  • Verifiesreceipt of materials and approves invoices for payment as required.
  • Ensurean uninterrupted supply of materials while optimizing cost, lead-time and quality.
  • Provide constant feedback to department and management relative to material shortages and suppliers capacity and capabilities.
  • In conjunctionwith the Purchasing Manager and Engineering team, investigate and suggest alternate components, due to excessive lead time or obsolescence.
  • Act as a liaison between vendor and engineering to resolve technical questions.
  • Abilityto prioritize with vendor and expedite material under lead time.
  • Processnon-conforming material requests (MRBR) and RMA requests with distributors/vendors, in a timely manner.
  • Maintainappropriate lead time and pricing in SAP.
  • Capacity tohandle multiple vendors/priorities with minimal supervision.
  • Able tocommunicate effectively with all levels of employees and management. High degree of confidence, objectivity, diplomacy and ethical conduct is essential.
  • Complywith all work policies, including but not limited to, the Companys safety and attendance policies.
  • Providecoverage for other team members during travel and vacation periods.
  • Worksovertime on an as-needed basis.

SKILLS and KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:

  • Ability to identify electronic and mechanical components; familiarity with purchasing and inventory control procedures in a manufacturing environment; familiarity with a fully integrated computing system.
  • Strong negotiating, problem-solving and analytical skills.
  • 5 plusyears of work experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Efficientorganizational and time management skills.
  • Consistentattention to detail.
  • Capableof working with a team or independently and be a self-starter.
  • Potential to excel in a fast-paced environment
  • Abilityto use computer for on-line system and for spreadsheet analysis.
  • Familiaritywith ISO 9001
  • Comprehensiveunderstanding of MS Excel, MS Word.

DESIRED:

  • Ability to read and understand blueprints/technical drawings and specifications
  • Experiencewith SAP
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma Principles
  • APICS/CPIM Certification
  • Experiencein purchasing Aluminum, Stainless Steel and Resin Cabinets

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE: High School Diploma or equivalent. 5 plus years buying in a manufacturing environment with progressive responsibility. Associate or Bachelors de ree is desired.
