Job Summary

Assist in the management and coordination of low to moderate level risk and complex Telecommunications Regional projects in a matrix team environment. Provide leadership, direction, coordination, and effective communication to initiate, plan, execute, monitor and control, and close projects in a safe, efficient, economical, risk-balanced approach to achieve short and long range goals with maximum customer satisfaction. Develop relationships and effectively communicate with all stakeholders including internal customers, external customers, team members, suppliers, contractors, vendors, and industry peers. Works with guidance to solve low to moderate level risk project problems; takes a broad perspective to identify solutions.

Job Description

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS are listed below:

1.) Assist the project manager in planning, organizing, directing, and coordinating assigned project and outage work activities. Perform the lead role on local and Regional Projects.

2.) Support and hold employees and contractors accountable for the AEP System Safety Process, ensuring a safe working environment focused on "Commitment to Zero".

3.) Responsible for shepherding high risk projects between Engineering and Construction/Operations, with responsibility for ensuring drawings are complete, materials are ordered and delivered, resource availability, and project plans are updated.

4.) Develop solid working relationships, foster teamwork, provide continuous improvement feedback, and seek customer satisfaction with the project team, BU Partners, contractors, vendors, and suppliers. Leverage relationships between Telecom Operations, Telecom Construction, Business Units, and 3rd party Contractors to build efficient work processes and practices.

5.) Provide detailed specific guidance, feedback, instruction, and training to improve design, systems, procedures, schedules, and costs.

6.) Perform post project reviews/audits to critique performance.

7.) Develop documentation to assist in process change and performance improvement.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education requirements are listed below:

  • Bachelor of Science in Engineering, Engineering Technology, Project Management, Computer Science or Telecommunications

  • OR Associate's degree in engineering/technical with 2 years' of relevant Telecommunications experience OR High School Diploma/GED with 4 years' of relevant Telecommications experience.

Work Experience requirement listed below:

Four (4) years' experience including work in one of these areas: construction or field operations experience, Telecommunications project execution (in addition to any educational experience identified above)

Required License(s)/Certification(s) are listed below:

  • PMP is strongly preferred.

On small projects, act as project manager for development. Key developmental qualifications and traits required for individuals in this position are as follows: Develop effective leadership, team building and meeting management skills as outlined in the AEP leadership competencies and values.

Develop confidence in ability, and demonstrate the motivation and attitude, to lead a team and a project to successful conclusion.

Develop communication skills that are clear, direct, concise, and professional, including effective listening, with all stakeholders including team members, sponsors, management and senior management.

Develop understanding of economic analysis techniques and business acumen. Develop understanding of the Engineering & Design, Procurement, Contracting, Estimating, Construction and Start-up procedures and processes. Raise project team awareness to the latest guidelines and requirements. Develop a working knowledge of Telecommunication and BU Partner Project Management tools and techniques.

Develop skill-sets in strategic thinking, planning, risk assessment and prioritization of project activities. Globally view the project from all angles such as safety, constructability, sequence, changing conditions, contingencies, contractual, predictability, level of priority, sense of direction and sense of productivity to quickly identify and to avoid or to mitigate project risks. Support the organization of project activities, delegate project task assignments, confidently set team requirements and expectations to manage deliverables and hold team members accountable.

Demonstrate willingness to provide continuous improvement feedback to project team members.

Develop conflict management skills to provide solutions to issues that maximize project success with an overriding goal to do the "right thing" for the company. Develop understanding of scope management, risk balanced technical options, and common project risk factors.

Develop understanding of the various documents used to procure labor, service, material, and engineered equipment as well as standard terms and conditions. Develop understanding of contract components and development process.

Develop understanding of critical drawing and document hand-offs between disciplines on a project team. Assist with the evaluation and determination of the skill sets and capabilities of team members then make recommendations to ensure project success. Act with integrity by demonstrating accountability for project assignments.

$85,081.00-106,352.50 USD
