Ultium Cells Overview:
Ultium Cells, LLC. is a joint venture Lithium-ion automotive battery cell manufacturing plant between LG Energy Solution, Ltd., and General Motors. This high-technology plant is a new construction that will have the latest in battery cell manufacturing technology. This $2.3 billion investment will be among the largest battery cell manufacturing plants in the world. Ultium Cells will produce battery cells for General Motors’ North American electric vehicle applications.

Position Description:
During our paid internship program, interns will have the opportunity to work on major projects and showcase their skills and talents. This program will provide each student with valuable insight, hands-on experience, and networking opportunities that will prepare each intern for their future. Interns will work alongside leaders and mentors on assignments related to your field of study to take your classroom learning to the next level. We are seeking dynamic and energetic interns who are ready to seize the opportunity and help us charge into a more sustainable, all-electric future transportation powered by Ultium Cells batteries.
Job Responsibilities:
Develop and deliver safety trainings to employees
Ensure effective hazard identification and mitigation for plant operations and administrative offices
Conduct daily line walks to ensure S&H practices are being observed and to note any at-risk behaviors, unsafe conditions, faulty equipment or non-compliance with any H&S related policies/regulations
Ensure timely communication of safety issues/concerns to department leadership
Lead cross-functional teams to drive improvements across the organization
Participate in incident investigations and track corrective actions
Conduct new equipment reviews, mechanical risk assessments and ergonomic risk assessments
Participate in emergency response drills and critiques
Develop/update site specific programs to ensure compliance with all applicable regulations
Evaluates workplace compliance with regard to local, state and federal regulations
Performs jobsite auditing and conducts incident investigation
Conducts inspections and ensures compliance with applicable H&S regulations and standards
Additional duties as assigned
Qualifications and Competencies:
Pursuing an undergraduate degree in Occupational Safety, Industrial Hygiene, or a related field
Knowledge in advanced manufacturing technology (automation), chemicals, and electrical safety a plus
Strong knowledge of and experience working with OSHA and state/local regulations is a plus
Must be comfortable working in a team setting
Skill in analyzing and evaluating technical data, test results, and reports
Positive attitude, self-driven, strong interpersonal skills and demonstrated effectiveness in accomplishing goals
Excellent organizational, communication, and computer skills; able to work flexible hours occasionally
MS Office skills preferred
