Job Description: Asplundh Engineering Services is currently seeking a Senior Electrical Power Engineer for an on-site position at a large manufacturing campus in Lansdale, PA. This is a permanent full-time role reporting directly to the Manager of the Engineering division. The Senior Electrical Power Engineer will play a pivotal and highly visible role within the Asplundh Engineering Team. A successful candidate will coordinate in a partnership with our testing division, be responsible for customer-facing tasks, and influence critical engineering decisions.

As the Senior Electrical Power Engineer, you will be instrumental in preparing electrical and power distribution designs for utility, commercial, and industrial projects. You will work closely with the customer, project engineers, project managers, and other engineering disciplines to provide general engineering support for design projects and proposals, making you a vital part of our team's success. Your expertise in power system design, protection, and controls will be crucial for optimizing our operations.

Responsibilities: In this influential role, you will be responsible for the following duties, among others:

  • Prepare electrical power specifications and functional designs in accordance with the National Electrical Code and other relevant industry and client standards.

  • Prepare basis of design and technical reports for the project

  • Apply your design expertise in selecting and installing power distribution equipment, ensuring optimal performance and safety.

  • Analyze complex engineering problems and provide effective resolutions in a timely manner, even while managing multiple projects simultaneously.

  • Collaborate seamlessly with all engineering disciplines, construction project managers, and clients to achieve project objectives.

  • Conduct load flow, short-circuit availability, arc flash, motor-starting, and protective relay coordination studies to enhance system reliability.

  • Develop comprehensive electrical construction bid documents, including single line and three-line drawings, control schematics, equipment layouts, duct banks, equipment schedules, distribution, and motor control schemes.

  • Thoroughly review and check drawings to ensure compliance with technical client requirements and industry standards for safety and reliability.

  • Perform site investigations and generate walkdown reports to facilitate effective project planning and execution.

  • Engage in construction-related activities, such as reviewing submittals, responding to RFI requests, and preparing construction cost estimates.

  • Utilize Computer Aided Design (CAD) software, particularly AutoCAD, to support the design process.

  • Respond to equipment failures, including relay and control equipment, variable frequency drives, and other miscellaneous LV/MV equipment, by offering technical guidance for troubleshooting and providing recommendations for mitigation.

Travel: This position is on-site at the manufacturing facility but occasional travel to additional client sites and other offices may be required.

Required Experience and Education:

  • Bachelor's degree in electrical engineering (BSEE) is required. PE License is a plus.

  • Possess a minimum of 10 years of experience working on Commercial / Industrial Utility Systems, Transportation Systems, Commercial, Government & Medical buildings.

  • Demonstrated expertise in Low and Medium Voltage Design ranging from 208V to 35kV.

  • Previous experience in the railroad industry is a valuable advantage.

  • Competency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint, Project, and Access) is essential.

  • Proficiency in using electrical engineering modeling software, such as SKM PowerTools and ETAP, is a strong asset.

  • AutoCAD proficiency requirements will depend on the level of experience.
