Description:

ABOUT THE ROLE

Drives all aspects of performance and execution pertaining to the management of the Asphalt and Construction businesses for Colorado. Including but not limited to the functional areas of health and safety, operations (production, distribution and quality), sales and marketing, finance, sustainability and land & environment.

The successful candidates specific areas of focus will include: OH&S/OSHA leadership resulting in an advancement of safety culture; continuous improvement efforts to achieve operational and commercial excellence, advancement of customer centricity by determining customer needs and developing product and service offerings (at all customer touchpoints) resulting in exceeding customer expectations; financial performance including meeting or exceeding profit & loss targets, maintaining working capital and determining and maintaining capital expenditures; advancing all elements of sustainability. The individual will also: lead by example demonstrating behaviour consistent with the company’s values; supervise, coach and mentor subordinates, ensure employee productivity and operational efficiency; maintain a positive working environment resulting in high retention and employee satisfaction; monitor various activities and satisfy related reporting requirements in accordance to the Company’s policies.

WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING

  • Delivers strategic leadership and management practices to the organization in support of the company’s business strategy.

  • Takes the lead role in communicating and demonstrating company vision, values and strategies to managers, business partners and the community.

  • Responsible for ensuring positive relations with all stakeholders: employees, customers, suppliers, community, government interest groups, etc. Assures adherence to applicable legislation and regulations, including permit and environmental conditions; in coordination with local Environmental Manager.

  • Ensures quality through evaluation of the production process, material inputs and outputs. Partners with support functions to ensure that highest quality product is being delivered.

  • Partners with Regional Management and support functions on the development of overall objectives and long-range goals/strategies for the region. Translates and cascades objectives to measurable goals to direct reports, monitors actions, and is ultimately accountable for the successful execution of all approved strategies.

  • Responds to and maintains positive employer-employee relationships that contribute to satisfactory productivity, motivation and morale. Prevents and resolves problems involving individuals when they arise. Motivates coaches and mentors’ employees to build effective teams.

  • Develops staffing plans. Responsible for personnel management including recruitment, supervision, disciplinary actions, performance appraisals and terminations. Prioritizes staff workloads in order to meet product needs/objectives in all areas. Develops and trains staff to ensure high skill levels. Partners with Human Resources on employee development and succession planning initiatives,

  • Understands the needs of the customers and positions the company to profitably meet mutual needs of customer and company. Provides excellent customer service to stakeholder groups by addressing issues, questions or concerns in a timely manner. Builds long lasting relationships with customers.

  • Assesses market opportunities and develops annual business plans in terms of volume and expense budgets. Responsible for establishing sales goals. Develops appropriate market expectations and for sales and marketing functions. Ensures the execution of sales strategies to develop new opportunities, increase market share and promote profitable sales growth.

  • Supports the Region in achieving overall P&L targets by identifying opportunities for improvement as well as collaborating with other regional product lines to leverage resources, etc. Responsible for the attainment of revenue and profit goals for the division.

  • Ensures adherence to budget and optimizes processes to achieve greater operational effectiveness. Oversees and directs preparation of operating budgets. Conducts operations reviews to assess all cost drivers that impact financials. Monitors and controls operational volumes, capacity, material use, inventory data, etc. Reviews financial statements, operations and cost reports, and other key performance indicators to measure productivity and goal achievement and to determine areas needing cost reduction and program improvement. Manages capital expenditures.

  • Ensures a culture built with honesty, integrity and in compliance with the company requirements.

  • Other duties as assigned.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

Education: Bachelor's degree.

Additional Education Preferred: Master's degree.

Preferred Field of Study: Operations Management, Business, and/or Engineering.

Required Work Experience: Minimum of 10 years of experience in the construction sector, including, but not limited to, experience in the health and safety, production, distribution, quality, and commercial departments.

Required Computer and Software Skills: Intermediate computer skills using Microsoft Office Products (Excel, PowerPoint, Word). SAP, Qlikview, and Google Meets/Zoom experience preferred.

Travel Requirements: Frequent travel to company and customer sites within Colorado. Occasional travel within the United States as required.

  • Able to handle multiple responsibilities at one time and able to deal effectively with people using a facilitative approach.

  • Demonstrated ability to delegate and obtain results through others.

  • Experience with land transactions and environment compliance

  • Demonstrate a commitment to communicating, improving and adhering to health, safety and environmental policies in all work environments and areas. Promote a culture of safety and exhibit these behaviors.

  • Successful candidates must adhere to all safety protocols and proper use of Holcim approved Personal Protection Equipment ("PPE"), including but not limited to respirators. Subject to applicable law, employees that are required to wear respirators must be clean shaven where the respirator seal meets the face in order to pass the qualitative and quantitative fit tests.
