The Opportunity

This position works out of our Lake Forest location in the Core Diagnostic Division. As a Manager, Category Procurement you’ll oversee the acquisition of biologics, ingredients, and technical services for CoreDx. Your responsibilities include supplier management, negotiation, cost reduction, and fostering cross-functional collaboration. Additionally, you’ll communicate the organization’s vision and strategy while leading and developing your team. Balancing cost-effectiveness with quality is crucial in this role.

What You’ll Work On

  • Leverages extensive markets and supplier relationships to manage procurement of direct materials, R&D materials, and services for CoreDx’s reagent operations.

  • Responsible for management and purchasing and procurement for various function’s needs that require technical acumen (Biological).

  • Incorporate strategic and policy development aspects that will have short, medium and long term consequences on the operation of the function.

  • Manages specific supplies, supervises employees in contacting suppliers requesting quotations, determines product specifications, escalation/ de-escalation of orders and negotiates prices, delivery schedules, and other conditions as required

  • Implements actions to ensure supply continuity and supplier resiliency.

  • Drive Total Cost of Ownership reductions for spend through analytics and internal partnerships.

  • Demonstrates skill and capability in influencing supply chain outcomes.

  • Geographic scope of operation at the country and international level.

  • Activities include sourcing, evaluating and selecting suppliers, negotiating supply contracts, and monitoring the quality and timeliness of materials and services supplied.

  • Position requires close collaboration with and knowledge of product demand planning, quality assurance and technical requirements.

  • Manages specialists with an extended organization of purchasing professionals and contract employees including setting expectations, coaching, counseling, developing, evaluating, feedback, hiring ,discipline and separation

  • Must be able to balance priorities across a wide variety of purchased items and hundreds of suppliers.

  • Closely collaborate with adjacent business departments, and external partners to ensure adequate and timely delivery of agreed services, in line with agreed service levels.

  • Partner and collaborate with key One Procurement staff of other Abbott divisions in order to support cross divisional business initiatives, and drive Procurement synergies and efficiencies.

  • Manage ongoing Supplier relationships.

  • Communicate vision and strategy for organization.

  • Initiate, build and maintain strong relationships across various functions, demonstrate the value-add of leveraging and build enthusiasm and support for adoption.

  • Ensure optimal balance between value for money and cost savings is achieved, while ensuring quality and excellent customer service.

  • Translate market changes and dynamics for category into strategy across regions.

  • Continually look for opportunities for cost reductions and cost avoidance.

  • Responsible for people leadership for the team,.

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree

  • 5+ years of progressive responsibility experience in purchasing /commodity management

  • 3+ years working in a highly regulated environment

  • 3+ years working with purchasing/commodity management software

  • Successful track record within procurement, supply chain management or technical field.

  • Strong technical aptitude in the area of biologics and chemistry

  • Broad international experience and globally astute, knowledge of markets by regions

Preferred Qualifications

  • Advanced technical degree preferred in areas of Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry

  • Certified Professional in Supply Management (CPSM),Certified Purchasing Manager (CPM) or similar certification a plus.

  • Project Management Professional (PMP) or similar certification a plus.

  • Strong organizational skills, including program/project management.

  • Excellent communication skills (written and verbal). Strong interdisciplinary, and excellent intercultural influence, and networking skills.

  • World class supplier management.

  • Strong ability to develop and execute against actionable implementation plans. Relevant business process knowledge. Strong ability to influence multiple stakeholders with superior negotiating skills.

The base pay for this position is $95,000.00 – $190,000.00. In specific locations, the pay range may vary from the range posted.
