Role Summary/Purpose:

  • Participate/lead the design and development effort for Custom generator set controls and electrical architecture.

  • Responsibility for the design, build, and test support of custom content on orders for Lafayette, IN and Tianjin, China facilities.

  • Application of Diesel & Gas generating sets in the Electric Power, Oil & Gas and Marine markets.

The large Power System Division currently has a Senior Electrical Design Engineer position located at our Lafayette, IN facility. In this role, you will participate/lead the design and development effort for custom generator set controls and electrical architecture. Responsibility for the design, build, and test support of custom content on orders for Lafayette, IN and Tianjin, China facilities. Application of diesel & Gas generating sets in the Electric Power, Oil & Gas and Marine markets.

Job Duties/Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop custom solutions for gensets including generators, genset controls, control panels, electrical harnessing, telematics, and upgrade kits

  • Creation and support of detailed design, distribution of requirements and deadlines to offsite engineering detailers.

  • Support manufacturing with build and test processes as required

  • Support market facing groups with dealer technical inquiries and project quoting

  • Review project results with the management team through design reviews.

  • Collaborate with suppliers, field support of dealers, and resolution of warranty issues.

  • Application scope is Oil & Gas, Electric Power, Marine, and Defense & Federal Products.

  • Product scope is 3500, C175, 3600, and C280 models.

  • Minimal travel (less than 10%)

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering and/or Electrical Engineering Technology curriculum AND 3 years of relevant experience.

  • High level of oral, written, and interpersonal communications skills.

  • Ability to be a self-starter with strong technical leadership skills.

  • Proven ability to perform complex assignments, prioritize workload, and manage multiple projects simultaneously.

Top Candidates will also have:

  • Knowledge of control and power system design

  • Good interpersonal, teamwork and collaboration skills to develop a cooperative working relationship with others inside and outside of the department.

  • Demonstrated initiative and sense of urgency relative to customer requirements and creative problem solving across organizational boundaries.

  • Experience with high speed and medium speed reciprocating engine gensets

  • Previous experience using Teamcenter ProE, Pro-Cable, and CREO (ProE Schematics) software.

  • Experience with 3-phase power design or generator set design.

  • Familiarity of electrical standards and certifications including SAE (Society of Automotive Engineers), ANSI (American National Standards Institute), ISO (International Organization for Standardization), IEC (International Electrotechnical Commission), NFPA (National Fire Protection Association), NEMA (National Electrical Manufacturers Association), UL (Underwriters Laboratories), RoHS (Restriction of Hazardous Substances Directive), and CSA Class 1 Div 2 (Canadian Standards Association) requirements.
