Job Title: Country Communications Manager, MYSGPH

Location: Malaysia, Kuala Lumpur

About the role:

  • The Communication Manager is responsible for the creation and execution of a local market communications strategy that is linked to the core objectives of the business, and in line with the broader India & Southeast Asia regional strategy.

  • The Communications Manager will be responsible for all internal and external communications, managing media relations, crisis communication and content creation to build, protect and enhance Takeda’s corporate reputation

  • In addition, the Communications Manager is responsible for building and maintaining executive leadership communications, ensuring that all produced content is of a high quality, engaging and consistently on-message.

  • Be responsible for managing and enhancing the company’s institutional image and products by building and maintaining strong relationships with both traditional media (TV, radio, press etc) and new media (e.g. online personalities, social media influencers etc.) The candidate should cultivate and maintain direct good relationships with key media members (e.g. healthcare and consumers fields related to dengue vaccine, etc.)

  • The successful candidate will also play a key role in the organization in developing and implement comprehensive communications plans aligned with the organization’s goals, ensuring consistent messaging across all channels.

  • Provide long term strategic communications counsel and deliver on short-term communications objectives

  • The successful candidate should be able to work effectively in a fast-paced dynamic environment with a passion for excellence coupled with strong collaboration working style.

How you will contribute:

  • Develop and implement the local communication strategy aligned with global and regional guidelines, which linked to the core objectives of the business for internal and external audiences.

  • Build and maintain impactful collaborations with internal stakeholders to develop, coordinate and implement strategic communications to meet business objectives

  • Define and drive formal, integrated communications programs relevant to external stakeholders including healthcare professionals, media, social media influencers, patient groups/society, community groups to positively impact public health in line with Takeda’s vision

  • Cultivate and maintain strategic media relations with key media contacts across print, broadcast and online media.

  • Oversees organization’s business communications and industry issues and recommend appropriate counsels from a communication perspective.

  • Being responsible for ensuring Takeda brands’ core messages the organization’s value propositions are promoted both internally and externally to relevant audiences. This includes managing the end-to-end process of the following:

  • Manage relationships and collaborate directly with media and agencies (in the occasion some media agencies are engaged for certain campaigns) on various levels and initiate ideas to promote business objectives;

  • Prepare and disseminate press-releases, media statements, media materials and other public-facing documents;

  • Manage media inquiries, media events, influencer engagements, media interviews to generate buzz and positive coverage for the organization and brand;

  • Lead the executive communications and profiling efforts to enhance Takeda's brand visibility. This involves scheduling and managing media interviews and engagement events, as well as preparing pre-event briefing materials and post-event reports;

  • Oversee social media influencer partnerships, including the management of communications and content. Ensure timely follow-ups on engagements and monitor the publication of content associated with Takeda’s brands.

  • Accountable for ensuring that all communications materials created for external audiences comply with Takeda’s policies, industry regulations, and legal requirements. This includes overseeing the review and approval process through Takeda’s internal applications.

  • Be part of the Issue and Crisis Management core team in MYSG LOC and manage the company’s responses to crises promptly and effectively to safeguard a positive corporate reputation

  • Keep employees well-informed about company policies, achievements and changes through internal newsletters, intranet and other communication tools. Promote and communicate a positive corporate culture that aligns internal values with external messaging.

  • Responsible to plan and implement executive engagements and corporate events such as town hall meetings, company meetings and ad-hoc corporate events.

  • Act as Communications Lead to consolidate LOC communications opportunities, planning and reporting with I-SEA Communications Lead and community.

  • Oversees the creation and implementation of the organization’s CSR objectives and aligns with Leadership Team. Drive impactful corporate social responsibility programs in partnership with HR and relevant functions.

What you bring to Takeda:

Education and Experiences

  • Bachelor’s degree in Public Relations/Communications/Journalism or equivalent

  • Minimum 7 years of experience in Corporate Communications and Public Relations in healthcare industry.

  • Substantial in-house PR experience and exposure to PR agencies

  • Experienced in media relations with strong media contacts.

  • Experienced in creation of communication plans, strategic and long term planning with a focus on results oriented execution.

  • Experience working in a high-volume, fast-paced environment

  • Extensive experiences across a wide range of markets and cultures will be preferred.

Key Skills, Abilities, and Competencies

  • The ability to work in a matrix environment and orchestrate across organizations, regardless of direct line-of-sight management.

  • Direct connection with traditional and social media influencers, and the ability to build and maintain such connections and relationships over time.

  • The ability to rationalize message volume and nuance messages for multiple audiences.

  • A strong communicator themselves, in both small and large group settings.

  • Good knowledge of all aspects of communications including executive positioning, internal communication, media relations, product communication and crisis communication.

  • High levels of energy, drive and commitment, combined with excellent written and verbal communication skills (presentations) with strong English proficiency.

  • The ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, dynamic environment, with the agility to respond to new and changing requirements based on both a market and company environment.

  • Ability to negotiate and build consensus among various parties important.
