Job Overview:

The Senior Equipment and Machinery (E&M) Specialist - Electrical uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to improve the electrical discipline within McDermott. Among traditional vessel and marine electrical engineering tasks, this position will support the design and installation of hybridization power on our vessels. They will act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and share their conceptual and practical expertise related to the electrical discipline. The Senior E&M Specialist - electrical solves complex problems and uses discipline-specific knowledge to improve their products or services. The Senior E&M Specialist impacts a range of customer, operational, project, or service activities with the Equipment & Machinery team and other related teams.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Analyze project requirements, specifications, and technical data sheets to evaluate the feasibility of electrical and mechanical (E&M) systems within the marine sector

  • Perform comprehensive assessments of marine E&M systems, examples: include generators, switchboards, propulsion systems, HVAC systems, communication systems, and lighting systems

  • Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams to develop cost-effective and innovative E&M solutions, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations and industry standards

  • Participate in project planning and coordination activities, providing expert advice on the design and installation of E&M systems for marine projects

  • Collaborate with engineering teams to support detailed project execution plans for E&M systems, considering project timelines, budget constraints, and customer requirements

  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure effective mitigation measures are implemented to enhance project safety and reliability

  • Develop and implement quality assurance procedures to ensure the highest standards of E&M systems and equipment

  • Conduct regular inspections and audits to monitor compliance with industry standards, regulations, and company-specific guidelines

  • Provide technical guidance and support to internal and external stakeholders regarding regulatory requirements and best practices

  • Provide technical support to multidisciplinary teams throughout the project and asset lifecycle, addressing any E&M-related queries or challenges

  • Troubleshoot complex electrical and mechanical issues in marine systems, offering practical solutions and ensuring minimal downtime

  • Assist in the development and implementation of maintenance and repair strategies, ensuring optimal system performance and reliability

Essential Qualifications and Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related field

  • Knowledge of electrical and mechanical systems, examples include control systems, cranes, winches, tensioners, etc.

  • Strong familiarity with relevant industry standards (e.g., ABS, DNV, IEC), regulations, and codes

  • Proficiency in utilizing E&M-related software and tools

  • Excellent problem-solving and analytical skills, with the ability to make sound decisions under pressure

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams

  • Strong organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously
