McDermott Senior Accountant in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia
Job Overview:
The Senior Accountant uses best practices and knowledge of internal or external issues to improve the accounting discipline within McDermott. They will act as a resource for colleagues with less experience and share their conceptual and practical expertise related to the accounting discipline. The Senior Accountant solves complex problems and uses discipline-specific knowledge to improve their products or services. The Senior Accountant impacts a range of customers, operational, project, or service activities with the accounting team and other related teams and ensures that they work within the appropriate guidelines and policies.
Key Tasks and Responsibilities:
Preparation of Audited Financials – Asia Pacific, UK, African Entities
Preparation of TB with statutory adjustments for audit based on local IFRS as the accounting system only provided financials based on US GAAP. For example, recompute the recognition of projects revenue based on local IFRS, Lease Accounting entries based on finance leases
Liaise with auditor and provide TB and other schedules for audit review
Retrieve samples selected by auditor and provide necessary clarification to queries within the agreed time
Liase with Project accountants, FP&A, HR or payroll team on audit queries
Arrange for legal and intercompany confirmations as requested by auditor
Arrange for the directors & shareholding confirmations
Prepare tax schedules (FA, Provisions, WHT) for Corporate Tax Return submission
Presentation of FS to APAC Controller & Manager to seek approval
Circulate final draft FS for corporate approval
Arrange to get the signed financials within the agreed timelines
Liase directly with Tax Consultant for the preparation and filing of WHT, VAT and Corporate Tax Returns
Assist in bank related activities
Prepare monthly & quarterly Tax Forecast & Tax Packs and booking of monthly entries for tax expense
Involved in preparing Overall Business Line quarterly forecast and Annual Budget and provide variance explanations on tax lines
Prepare projects intercompany billing & booking JV
Provide support to project team and Central KL Accounting team on any ad hoc works
Prepare and review with supervisor Intercompany settlements monthly
Any ad hoc compliance reporting required time to time
Able to Work Independently, with good inter-personal skills
Essential Qualifications and Education:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance required, CPA preferred
4-5 years of relevant experience
Effective communication and documentation skills, including the ability to interact effectively with various levels of staff and management
Motivated, self-directed, and results-driven approach to work, and takes ownership of assigned tasks
Deadline oriented
Ability to work extended work hours as necessary for monthly closings
Excellent organizational skills and pay attention to detail, including neatness and organization of work papers
Effective in a dynamic environment, adapting to and managing change positively and proactively
Capable of establishing effective working relationships that promote teamwork and collaboration
Effective interaction with financial reporting, regulatory reporting, internal auditors, and external auditors
Ability to remain positive, professional, calm, and focused when faced with challenging situations
Computer literate in Microsoft programs: Word, Access, PowerPoint, Excel
Ability to work independently
