Summary
Watco is seeking a detail oriented, organized, and analytical Indirect Tax Manager to join the Tax Department. The Indirect Tax Manager will be responsible for supporting Watco’s indirect tax compliance, mentoring teammates, tax controversy and tax technical functions. Every part of the business involves indirect tax, and this role provides a critical component of mitigating risk by maintaining compliance with state and local law and advising other Teams throughout the company.
Essential Job Duties and Functions
Prepare, analyze, and file assigned sales & use and special tax returns
Supervise tax staff and provide mentoring and guidance
Review of staff prepared returns and reconciliations for both US and Canadian returns
Provide tax guidance to internal departments on issuing exemption certificates to vendors
Collaborates with accounting and other departments on sales tax matters, as required
Correspond with taxing jurisdictions to answer questions, provide information, or resolve issues
Complete assigned sales and use tax reconciliations and resolve outstanding balances
Support state and local sales tax audits with data collection, analysis, and research
Identify and implement process improvements to mitigate tax compliance risks
Assist registering company locations in all applicable state and local jurisdictions
Review transactional tax accruals and create journal entry adjustments to ensure proper taxation of purchases
Research state and local tax laws and codes for tax questions and tax planning purposes
Assist and complete special tax projects as needed
Education and Experience (include certs or licenses needed)
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and/or Business
5 to 10 years of relevant experience
Qualifications
Self-driven, motivated, and should be able to function independently as well as in a team
Excellent computer skills, especially in Microsoft Excel and SAP
Ability to prioritize, work under pressure, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment
Highly detail oriented and organized in work
Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills
Able and willing to deliver friendly, courteous, and prompt internal and external customer service
Successful completion of background check, and drug screen required in advance of hire
