The Data Governance Manager is part of the UK Data Privacy & Governance Team that forms part of UK COO organisation. DP&G is leading data risks and supporting the data capabilities needed to enable Aon’s data & analytics based client offerings and services. One of these capabilities is the development, deployment, optimisation and management of a data governance framework for the UK.

What the day will look like

As a data governance manager in the UK DP&G Team, you will play a key role in shaping Aon UK data management framework. Demonstrating your communication and collaborator management skills, you will consult on and inspire change in the data management framework and standards across business, risk, technology and other data collaborators.

Responsibilities:

  • Establish and drive a data governance implementation roadmap in alignment with global strategic priorities for development of information-based business capabilities

  • Manage the deployment of a data governance framework, with a focus on data ownership, access management (structured and unstructured), data lifecycle management and data quality

  • Coordinate the development, introduction and review of a DG operating model, including policies and standards, principles, governance metrics and related tools in alignment with the Global Data Office; together with Solution Line and other data governance liaisons

  • Ensure roles and responsibilities related to data governance are enforced with appropriate accountability

  • Develop training materials and tools to support business and functional units in their DG awareness and compliance

  • Closely collaborate with peers in the Data Privacy, Security and Risk functions

  • Support related assurance programs and activities to enhance data risk mitigation for the firm

  • Serve as a liaison between business and functional areas and technology to ensure that data related business requirements for data management are clearly defined, communicated and well understood and considered as part of operational prioritisation and planning

  • Define indicators of performance and quality metrics to monitor and ensure compliance with data related policies, standards, roles and responsibilities, and adoption requirements

  • Lead Senior Management, comprising resources from the Business and Functional areas and IT business and operations functions, to achieve their objectives and resolve issues raised by business and functional area data governance representatives

  • Find opportunities pertaining to the use of information assets to achieve efficiency and effectiveness and help to strengthen the position of data as a strategic asset in the firm

Skills and experience that will lead to success

  • 3-5 years of experience in a major services organisation, three years in a management role, with large-scale data or project management and oversight experience

  • Knowledge of data governance practices and business and technology issues related to data management; prior experience in defining and implementing data-related frameworks or operating models

  • Strong customer management and engagement skills with all levels and types of customers; technically and non-technically versed

  • Consulting skills, with change management concepts and strategies, including communication, culture change and performance measurement system design

  • Internally and externally recognised subject matter expert that influences the way things are done

  • Relevant bachelors or masters degree (e.g. Computer Science, Information Management)

  • A strategic and results-oriented mindset
