Big Ray's Warehouse Assistant in Kodiak, Alaska
Position Summary
The warehouse assistant assists with receiving, warehousing, and distribution services for the local market. The warehouse assistant moves the merchandise from the warehouse to the sales floor and sets up displays to catch the attention of the customers.
Essential Job Functions
- Assist in correct receiving, labeling and organizing of all freight and back stock, including physical loading, unloading, moving and counting of merchandise.
- Follow all merchandise and computer system policies and procedures, as well as participate in all aspects of inventory control to maintain accurate records and inventory counts.
- Execute transfer of merchandise between stores at the request of buyers, both the physical movement or shipping and the accurate computer entry and records. This involves practicing safe use and proper care of vehicles used to move merchandise, as well as any other equipment used in warehouses, including computers.
- Work with buyers, merchandisers and sales staff to help carry out plans for the timely addition or removal of merchandise from the sales floor areas.
Non-Essential Job Functions
- Actively participate in regular department/store/staff meetings and provide meaningful input.
- Assist as needed with various store operations.
- Perform other job-related duties as assigned.
Job Qualifications
The following are required:
- High school diploma or GED.
- Valid drivers license.
- Experience in retail, including inventory control.
- Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing.
- High degree of professionalism in all modes of communication, attitude and teamwork with business partners, team, peers, and management.

This position requires regular attendance in accordance with established scheduleas this is the most common time to conduct business with customers, vendors and employees. Employees must also possess the following abilities:
- Ability to adhere to safety rules and other reasonable regulations pertaining to the position.
- Ability to refrain from violence.
- Ability to work in cooperation with other workers within the company.
Physical and Mental Demands
The physical demands of this position require frequent standing, walking, sitting, speaking, and hearing. Requires near vision to write and read printed materials and computer screens. Requires hearing and speaking to exchange information on the telephone or in person. The employee is regularly required to reach with his/her hands and arms and lift items weighing up to 40 lbs. Must be able to use carts, ladders, dollies, and stools to assist in moving or shelving items. Requires sufficient arm, hand, finger dexterity to operate a keyboard and other office equipment. Repetitive motions with wrists, hands, and fingers may also be required. Requires the ability to operate a vehicle safely. Requires the ability to climb a flight of stairs. Additionally, the employee must be able to communicate by oral and written means in an appropriate business manner and have cognitive skills to understand instructions, readily recall facts and details, handle conflict, and make effective decisions under pressure. Work Environment
This position is performed in a dynamic, small business setting with the offices located on the second floor of a retail store. The employee will occasionally be on the retail floor among clothing and related fixtures or in the warehouse among boxes of clothing and financial records. Some evenings and weekends may be required.
