WorkSource Oregon Kayak Tour Guide in Klamath Falls, Oregon

Required: * 18 years of age by May 30 * Current First Aid & CPR certifications * Valid driver\'s license, with clean driving record * Safely operate a company vehicle with guests & /or coworkers * Tow a trailer behind a vehicle & back up as necessary at boat launches * Positive, supportive team player * Excellent verbal communication skills * Work long hours in the field & lift & carry heavy objects (50+ pounds) over awkward terrain * Interact positively with a range of age groups, from small children to seniors * Follow drug-free & tobacco-free workplace policy * Work long hours & irregular shifts, including weekends * Handle stressful or emergent situations calmly & effectively * Handle multiple tasks at once * Strong attention to detail Preferred: * Prior experience with guiding, outdoor recreation, athletics, educational roles, high ropes instruction, rafting, or zip-lining * Experience in group services or group leadership * Certified Swiftwater Rescue Technician 1 or higher at some point in professional career * Post-secondary education in tourism or recreation Academic or professional background or equivalent experience in natural science, western American history, environmental education or conservation-related field Duties Include: * Perform excellent risk management in remote settings * Work positively with other team members to implement all aspects of trip from pack-up to clean-up to provide guests with a safe, meaningful, & memorable experience * Instruct guests on best practices for paddling kayaks on calm water * Perform water rescue of guests in the event of a tip-over or emergency * Engage & respond to guests in a positive, friendly & supportive manner, including meeting their expressed & unexpressed needs * Take care of equipment & facilities * Provide meaningful interpretation to our guests on natural & cultural history topics pertinent to the trip, such as geology, Wildlife Refuges, Spring creeks, wetlands, Crater Lake National Park, Modoc Indian War, Applegate Trail, etc. * Professionally represent the Mission, Vision, & Values * Speak positively of the company, owners, & region to guests & your co-workers at all times * Act as a good steward of the natural world & follow Leave No Trace practices such as picking up trash * Follow all policies & procedures as outline in Employee Manual * Train new & upcoming guides as needed in all aspects of this position * Follow all state & federal laws while guiding all trips * Always keep a functional first aid kit with you during guided trips * Clean all kayaks, life jackets, & paddles * Load & unload the kayak trailer daily * Have a cooler & ice with water available for guests with you daily * Tow in guests if the need arises * Inspect gear & fit life jackets to guests before every tour launch * Perform other duties as needed/assigned *** 8-40 hours/week. Temporary position expected to run from mid-April to mid-October ***
