Summary You will serve as a SHIPFITTER in the PRODUCTION RESOURCES DEPARTMENT, STRUCTURAL SHOP of PORTSMOUTH NAVAL SHIPYARD. Responsibilities You will install and fit parts on ships. You will locate and mark out reference lines and points, such as water lines, buttock lines, and frame lines. You will line up parts for welding or riveting. You will remove and repair or replace damaged parts of ship structures. You will identify leaks and seepage. The Screen-out Element for this position is: ABILITY TO DO THE WORK OF THE POSITION WITHOUT MORE THAN NORMAL SUPERVISION such as: Laying out reference points and dimensions for the fabrication, modification and installation of metal structural parts of ships and other vessels; Modifying, fabricating, repairing, assembling and installing various metal structural parts of ships and other vessels; Cutting and shaping metal parts such as plates, bulkheads, and frames; Interpreting blueprints, sketches, and using electrical instruments and tools of the trade; Applying cleanliness requirements and radiological safety procedures.
