Job Title: Foreman (Service)

Exempt Status: Hourly (non-exempt)
Position Objective/Description:
In addition to hands-on participation, provides direct supervision and coordination for various construction activities, including water services, grade work, base and pipe work on major civil construction projects .
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Run crew handling a variety of construction related functions, including underground pipe, excavation, grade work and/or water services.
Document, plan, and perform work activities independently.
Operate a variety of heavy construction equipment, as needed.
Hydrostat testing on water and reclaim, vacuum and air testing on sewer manholes, mud work on sewer and storm manholes. Raise manhole ring and covers to grade and install valve cams.

Consult with managers or other personnel to receive directions for crew and subcontractors engaged in planning and executing work procedures, interpreting specifications, resolve problems and coordinate construction activities
Inspect work progress, equipment, and construction sites to verify that company workmanship and client-required safety protocols are being complied with.
Conduct regular tailgate safety meetings.
Order and inspect required equipment based on project specifications.
Report to Superintendent on work progress, time, materials, and problems
Conduct safety program orientation/indoctrination and ensure safety compliance
Provide job site leadership, instruction, training, discipline and conflict resolution
Coordinate with management, subcontractors and other to maintain compliance with contract specifications, client requirements, and building codes
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
Able to read and understand construction plans, drawings, and specifications related to civil construction projects
Knowledge of highway construction, including underground pipe, excavation, grade work and/or water services.
Able to run a variety of earthmoving machines and equipment
Efficient at multi-tasking and working under the pressure of time constraints
Experienced in scheduling, ordering, field supervision, safety management, quality control and budgeting of dirt operations in civil construction
Strong commitment to quality, safety and customer satisfaction
Demonstrate a safety first attitude with strict adherence to safety policies and procedures.
Strong leadership ability, motivation, and supervisory skills: assigning, directing and inspecting work, rewarding or disciplining employees, addressing complaints and resolving conflicts
Physical Demands:
Constant physical effort, including extended standing for at least 8 hour shift
Intermittent walking and standing on a construction site.
Climb intermittently
Regularly twist, bend, stoop, kneel and crouch to perform duties
Regularly reach above shoulder level
Regularly push/pull objects
Must be physically able to repetitively lift, push, pull and/or carry up to 50 pounds occasionally, and sometimes heavier weight.
Agility, balance, and manual dexterity, as well as arm-hand steadiness
Able to hear and respond to oral instructions in a noisy environment.
Regularly required to use hands and fingers to handle, feel or operate objects, tools or controls, and reach and grasp with hands and arms.
Excellent hand, eye and foot coordination
Good vision, depth perception, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus
Education / Experience:
High School diploma or general education degree (GED)
Five years’ experience working as a Service Foreman with a heavy highway construction company; or equivalent experience
Two 2 years’ experience working with underground utilities
Valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record
Work Environment:
Regularly works in outside weather conditions, including extreme heat and humidity, and is exposed to uneven surfaces and natural terrain. Frequently works near moving mechanical machinery, and is frequently exposed to wet or humid conditions and vibration. Occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles, toxic or caustic chemicals, and risks of electrical shock. The noise level in the work environment is usually loud. May be required to travel, work away from home for extended periods, and work occasional nights and weekends.
