Job Summary and Qualifications

POSITION SUMMARY: Under the direction of the Director of Facilities Management and the Engineering Manager, performs a variety of skilled and semi-skilled maintenance, plumbing, carpentry and heating/air conditioning tasks, installing and repairing equipment and maintaining building and grounds as assigned.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Consistently deliver the best in customer service and patient care. As a team member, demonstrate respect, dignity, kindness and empathy in each encounter with patients, families, visitors and other employees

  • Champion HCA Florida Poinciana Hospital’s mission, vision and values; comply with the policies and procedures, ethical standards and code of conduct set forth by the company

  • Performs general maintenance and construction functions as directed by the Director of Facility Services.

  • Maintains interior and exterior lighting.

  • Greases, oils, wipes, does filter changes, belt changing, sewer cleaning, roof repair, caulking, grouting, replaces glass, bearings and repairs equipment.

  • Immediately identifies, sequesters and informs the Director of Facility Services of any malfunctioning equipment.

  • Achieves to reduce maintenance and utility costs through improved operational procedures.

  • Shows working knowledge and ability to perform medium task assignments in air conditioning, electrical, plumbing and carpentry.

  • Reviews all work orders and immediately calls to the attention of the supervisor all work orders which cannot be completed.

  • Helps to maintain a clean safe and organized work area.

  • Records data as required on equipment logs.

  • Independently performs skilled work in carpentry, plumbing, electrical, store fixturing, and floor coverings observing all applicable safety requirements.

  • Performs a variety of duties, often changing from one task to another of a different nature using hand tools, power tools and shop equipment as needed.

  • Selects proper tools, and/or materials to be used to complete a project as assigned by the Supervisor.

  • Maintains or repairs physical structures by performing repairs on defective electrical equipment, plumbing, flooring, store fixturing, etc.

  • Remodel existing buildings and structures to include painting, general repairs, plumbing, drywall, flooring and store fixtures.

  • May be asked to independently fabricate materials to be used for repair or remodeling.

  • Proactively performs preventative maintenance on existing structures, buildings and equipment either self-directed or as directed by a Supervisor.

  • Research and perform data entry tasks through the online maintenance request tracking system.

  • Demonstrates understanding of emergency procedure fire drills, evacuation procedures and internal/external disaster plans and procedures.

  • Demonstrates the ability to read blueprints, drawings and schematics.

  • Routinely uses policies and procedures manuals, office procedures manuals, and other reference materials as necessary to insure proper course of action.

  • Possesses an awareness of hospital systems and procedures, location of all departments, treatment areas, and other plant operations areas.

  • Demonstrates the ability to see what the situation demands: takes appropriate action, as required.

  • Regularly foresees potential problem situations: intervenes to offset adverse impact: demonstrates a proactive attitude in maintenance of equipment.

  • Performs other duties as required.

What qualifications you will need:

  • High School Graduate / GED

  • Have 3-5 years of commercial or industrial experience in applicable maintenance or construction trade or journey level status in an associated trade

  • At least 1 year of practical experience in an accredited hospital facility services department preferred.

  • Ability to read, write and understand English. Have subject matter expertise in the areas of maintenance and construction.

  • Must possess a working knowledge of building construction, building maintenance and the tools necessary to those trades as well as an understanding of job safety
