Trane is currently hiring a Generator Technician in our Kissimmee, FL location.

In this critical role, you will maintain and repair our commercial generator fleet to ensure they are always ready to return to field. You come to the rescue providing rental units to places like hospitals, schools, and other commercial sites when their power goes down. When you aren’t in the field, you will enjoy working at a depot getting the equipment ready to be rented again! It’s the best of both worlds!

Where is the work: This position has been designated as onsite .

What you will do:

In this position, you would be responsible for daily maintenance, repair and operation of diesel powered electrical generator sets. You will participate in daily work assignments to include fleet readiness and repair, preparing units for shipment, and other maintenance task at the local facility.

You may also be dispatched to local customer sites to help with installation, service, and / or decommission of the rented generators. You will also be responsible for general safety under the guidance of the Operations Team Leader.

You will need to have a working knowledge of commercial diesel engines and electrical alternator maintenance and repair. You will also participate in an on-call rotation to support rental operations. Finally, you will use, maintain, and operate heavy equipment such as forklifts, cranes and switcher trucks.

  • Conduct regular maintenance checks on our commercial generator fleet to ensure they are in top working condition and meet safety standards.

  • Perform repairs on commercial generators as needed to ensure they are functioning properly.

  • Diagnose and troubleshoot issues with generators and develop solutions to fix them.

  • Maintaining flexibility to work overtime and weekends as the business requires, including occasional overnight stays.

What you will bring:

  • A High School Diploma, GED or equivalent experience required.

  • 3+ years of experience in repairing and maintaining power generation equipment or gas / diesel engines.

  • Operating knowledge of Microsoft office software and working proficiency with handheld computer (i.e. Smartphone, iPad).

  • Valid Driver’s License with no major traffic violations, suspensions, or DUI’s in previous 3 years.

Additional Requirements and Environmental Exposure:

  • Must be able to safely and legally operate a vehicle using a seat belt.

  • Must be able to wear helmets, safety goggles, fall protection harness and safety boots to safely perform job duties.

  • Must be able to twist the trunk of your body 90 degrees in each direction.

  • Must be able to squat and touch the floor with both hands.

  • Must be able to reach your hands over your head.

  • Must be able to stand on concrete surfaces for extended periods, routinely up to 4 hours.

  • This position is highly physical and requires regular use of hands, fingers, walking, stooping, kneeling and climbing ladders. It requires employees to regularly lift and or move up to 10 lbs., frequently lift and/or move up to 40 lbs. and occasionally lift and/or move more than 40 lbs.

  • Must be able to safely use a ladder with a 350 lb. total weight limit, while carrying equipment of 50 lbs. or less.

  • Must be able to maneuver confined access areas, as small as 30” vertical x 45” horizontal.

  • Must be able to comfortably and routinely access rooftops with extension and/or fixed ladders at heights of 15’ to 20’, and occasionally, up to 50 feet +.

  • This role may be exposed to variable weather conditions, moving mechanical parts, heights, risk of electrical shock, noisy operating equipment and other variable environmental conditions based on location.
