Air Force Safety Center SUPERVISORY SAFETY AND OCCUPATIONAL HEALTH SPECIALIST in Kirtland AFB, New Mexico

The primary purpose of this position is to: Serve as the Chief of the Policy and Standards Branch, Air Force Ground Safety Division, Air Force Safety Center. Incumbent is responsible for leading and managing the development, monitoring, and revision of Air Force policy and safety standards that guide and regulate AF operations and programs that include, (continued below) Responsibilities SUMMARY CONTINUED: but are not limited to, Flight Line operations, Materials Handling and Storage, Chemical Safety, Personal Protective Equipment, Fire Protection and Prevention, and Confined Space Entry. DUTIES: Plans, organizes, and directs the activities of the Air Force Policy and Standards Branch, ensuring that Air Force safety standards and policy comply with legal and regulatory requirements and meets customer needs. Exercises supervisory personnel management responsibilities. Represents Air Force Safety Center, Ground Safety Division, with a variety of installation and functional are organizations. Serves as the principal advisor and consultant to thee Chief of Air Force Ground Safety and the Executive Director, Air Force Safety Center on matters pertaining to occupational safety policy and standards. Keeps the Air Force Ground Safety Community apprised of the latest developments in occupational safety legislation, technology and trending. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications In order to qualify, you must meet the specialized experience requirements described in the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualification Standards for General Schedule Positions, Administrative and Management Positions; the GS-0018, Safety and Occupational Health Management Series. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: Applicants must have at least one (1) year of specialized experience at the next lower grade GS-13, or equivalent in other pay systems. Examples of specialized experience includes expert knowledge and skill to serve as recognized authority and consultant on safety technical and operational matters that affect national and international interests; Knowledge and skill sufficient to generate new safety and occupational health management and administrative principles, develop original concepts applicable to new or emerging safety functions, and to plan and evaluate extensive, long-range safety programs and projects of a national magnitude. FEDERAL TIME-IN-GRADE (TIG) REQUIREMENT FOR GENERAL SCHEDULE (GS) POSITIONS: Merit promotion applicants must meet applicable time-in-grade requirements to be considered eligible. One year at the GS-13 level is required to meet the time-in-grade requirements for the GS-14 level. TIG applies if you are in a current GS position or held a GS position within the previous 52 weeks. NOTE: Applicants applying as VEOA candidates who are current GS civil service employees or are prior GS civil service employees within the past 52 weeks must also meet time-in-grade requirements. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (KSAs): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: Knowledge of the requirements, methods, techniques, and procedures pertinent to ground safety. Knowledge of safety and occupational health principles, practices, procedures, laws, regulations, and current legislative issues. Ability to plan, organize, direct the functions and mentor, motivate, and appraise the staff of senior military and civilian employees. Ability to plan, develop, implement and coordinate a complete safety and occupational health program. Knowledge of the organizational and functional responsibilities and operations of the AF Safety Center. Ability to plan, organize work, and meet deadlines. Ability to identify problems and develop innovative solutions. Ability to communicate both orally and in writing. Ability to analyze, plan, and adjust work operations of one or more organizational segments to meet program requirements and objectives within available resources. Ability to access or locate information through the use of a personal computer or terminal PART-TIME OR UNPAID EXPERIENCE: Credit will be given for appropriate unpaid and or part-time work. You must clearly identify the duties and responsibilities in each position held and the total number of hours per week. VOLUNTEER WORK EXPERIENCE: Refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service Programs (i.e., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student and social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge and skills that can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.
