Test Technician

(Contract Position)

Sigma Design is a product development, engineering, and manufacturing firm. Based out of the Pacific Northwest, we offer innovative concept through production services to diverse clients around the globe. We are currently looking for a Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our team in Kirkland, WA This position is a contract with an expected duration of 9 months.

    Primary Function:

    The Test Technician is responsible for running defined tests in a manufacturing environment and making observations to assist in root cause analysis of failures and defects. Communicate directly with the client regarding the status of test results. Occasionally required to assemble and disassemble to support operation objectives.

    Essential Job Functions - Responsibilities:

  • Document and implement test processes and schedules to meet the demands of a manufacturing/development assembly line.

  • Work closely with engineers and technical staff to develop and implement test procedures, schedules, updates, documentation, and knowledge transfer.

  • Coordinate and facilitate testing operations with other Technicians or Operators to ensure testing is fully operational with respect to the appropriate infrastructure, processes, and tools, as well as perform preventative maintenance and calibrations.

  • Perform rework, repair, upgrade and maintain various lab software, firmware and hardware.

  • Document the appropriate data from test results in multiple formats, such as log files, screenshots, photo, video, sounds clips or physical samples.

  • Provide feedback to Test Engineers for any test discrepancies, changes or suggested improvements.

  • Observe DUT (Device under Test) behavior and provide the first pass evaluation of test results with predetermined parameters and other test metrics.

  • Occasionally perform processes to complete mechanical and electrical assemblies, subassemblies, using common hand tools and electronic lab tooling.

  • Experience or familiarity with multi-meters, oscilloscopes, and other typical electronic lab equipment a plus.

    Education and Experience: (Knowledge, skills, & abilities)

  • High school diploma or GED is required; 2-3 year post-secondary diploma in a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering & Math) field is highly desirable.

  • Minimum of 2+ years of recent and relevant work experience in a product development or manufacturing test environment.

  • Excellent communication skills in English, both in written and oral.

  • Hands-on skills and mechanical aptitude skills.

  • Ability to understand, comprehend and provide feedback on written test plans and other documentation.

  • Must be technologically savvy for testing environments in a variety of operating systems.

  • Proficiency with Windows, MS Office (Excel, Word, & Outlook), attention to detail, organized with critical thinking skills.

  • Ability to troubleshoot & fix test systems.

  • Willingness to work a compressed work week. Overtime may be required.

  • Excellent teamwork/interpersonal skills and the ability to communicate effectively. Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively, both within and outside one's own work group.

  • Work Environment:

    Standard lab/production environment. Appropriate safety garments (PPE) must be worn. Occasionally may be required to work in environmental conditions that emulate typical user environments in order to facilitate design testing and validation. Occasionally may be required to travel as required to other facilities, clients or suppliers. Must be able to stand and work as long as 12 hours in different positions. Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds unassisted.
