Astronics Advanced Electronic Systems (AES) is seeking a Senior Manager, Electrical Engineering to join Cabin Electronics Power Team in Redmond, WA .

The Cabin Electronics Product Group is the world’s leading manufacturer of in-seat power systems for the commercial airline industry. The group’s EmPower® product line provides a variety of scalable power solutions for aircraft passenger cabins and flight decks. The system is used by over 280 airlines, IFE suppliers, and all major aircraft OEM manufacturers worldwide.

JOB SUMMARY

The Sr. Manager, Electrical Engineering will provide engineering resources which support development program milestones and new research activities. The successful candidate will lead and grow a team of technical professionals, establish, and enforce best practices and balance priorities when assigning resources. As a senior member of the Cabin Electronics Leadership Team the Sr. Manager Electrical Engineering will impact the growth of our business with proposal support, strategic planning, and occasional customer interface. DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Performance Management and Coaching: Be a positive and inspirational leader to the electrical engineering team. Set expectations, provide resources, encourage, and acknowledge feedback and act upon that feedback; hold employees accountable to ensure efforts are aligned with and achieve business outcomes. Reinforce actions that accomplish expectations, eliminate wasted activity, and build cooperation with other parts of the organization.

  • Growth and Mentorship: Take ownership for identifying and building talent, stimulating, and encouraging ideas – giving others a voice, supporting employee development, recognizing employee contributions, and communicating with staff about the positive impact on the business of talent development. Communicate the company vision often, build and share networks, and implement best practices to ensure high levels of employee engagement. Astronics is a place where people can grow their career.   • Hiring Top Level Talent: The goal is to be recognized throughout the industry as the leader in aircraft electrical systems. A key tenant of this strategy is being a center of excellence for aircraft power systems engineering which is a key aspect of this position. Plan for and secure the right people with the right skills to execute on current and future business strategies. Understand and apply internal and external workforce trends and competency requirements to identify and address current and future talent gaps. In short, build a sustainable talent pipeline.

  • Improve Efficiency of Design: Focus on software tools, training, standard templates, and process improvements to minimize the amount of non-value-added work the design teams perform. Work to offload tasks such as test procedures and report writing to other resources who may be able gain efficiencies with standard work processes. Brainstorm with the EE group, areas of frustration or bottlenecks and work to systematically reduce them.

  • Senior Leadership: Play an important part in the strategic leadership of the Cabin Electronics business. This person will be a good cultural fit with the company, and as a senior member of the Cabin Electronics leadership team to provide dynamic and a positive leadership perspective to help guide the strategic direction for the business.

  • Support Revenue Growth: Help grow the business with proposal support, strategic planning, and occasional customer interface that reflects our vision of being the recognized leader in aircraft power systems.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Education/Experience:

  • Ten (10) or more years of experience in the duties and responsibilities of the job including leadership of direct reports required

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering is required. Related technical degrees in combination with power conversion experience will be considered.

EMPLOYMENT ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS

  • As a US Department of Defense Contractor, Astronics is bound by International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR). Must be a US Person under ITAR to be eligible .

  • An offer of employment is contingent on successfully passing a pre-employment background screen and drug test including screening for the use of cannabis .

Base Salary is $139,516 - $222,863 per year . Several job-related and non-discriminatory factors including but not limited to experience in comparable roles, skill sets, training, education, licensure or certifications, other qualifications, market conditions and business needs influence actual salary offered.
