Position Overview:

To provide support services for the purpose of family preservation and maintenance, the core function of the Kinship Coordinator (“Coordinator”) is to ensure delivery of service within case management services for families and support groups for kinship caregivers and children. The purpose is to assist in maintaining the kinship home, ensure families are connected with their community services, and their culture and relationships are preserved.

The Kinship Coordinator will provide case management to all families enrolled in the program. Components consist of monthly home visits, intake and assessment of needs, service planning, and documentation of services provided to the families. This person will coordinate kinship support groups, educational information, and ensure respite services are being provided. The Coordinator will provide direct supervision, as well as on-going support and training to the Kinship Family Specialists. Individual supervision will be provided by weekly and the alternating week will be group supervision (if there is more than one Kinship Specialist).

This full-time position is 40 hours weekly, with some weekends and a flexed schedule. Located within the Kingston, NY region.

Duties & Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • The Kinship Coordinator provides direct supervision to the Kinship Specialist.

  • The Coordinator maintains a small caseload and provides case management services to families. This entails a minimum of monthly, in-person, contact with the family carrying out the following processes: financial assistance, legal information and referrals, and other information about issues that caregivers often face when raising children. The goal is to provide stability and preservation in the home.

  • Attends family court with the kinship caregiver when needed.

  • Conducts and completes the Adverse Childhood Experience (ACE) questionnaire with each member of the kinship family, within first 30 days of case opening.

  • The Kinship Coordinator ensures caregiver support groups, as well as child support groups, are being conducted and that families are actively participating. This also includes educational groups for families centered on trauma informed care. The Coordinator conducts support groups in conjunction with the Kinship Specialist.

  • Ensures children are safely maintained in the kinship home, families are connected to community services, and culture and relationships are preserved.

  • Provides caregiver support groups including, but not limited to, peer-to-peer support groups were conducted a minimum of one (1) time per month in each county served by the kinship caregiver program;

  • Provides support groups for all children in the kinship family, conducting a minimum of one (1) group per month, in each county served by the kinship caregiver program.

  • Case Management services will be provided to each family and catered to the individual family’s needs. Services are mandated to be documented on agency database program.

  • Provides consultation and supervision to kinship families to assure family preservation through monthly home visits and weekly phone consultations.

  • Evaluates treatment, parenting, and care of the child and maintain records.

  • Incorporates ongoing training with the Program Coordinator to professional kinship relatives/non-relatives.

  • Coordinates services and advocates for the child with community agencies, schools, and mental health agencies.

  • Using strength-based approaches, engages with the child in the home.

  • Works closely with clinical consultants, psychiatrist, and other professionals providing services to the child, when necessary to assist in kinship preservation of home.

  • Additional position-related duties and responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Director of Foster Care.

Position Requirements:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in a human service with 2 years’ experience in case management and child welfare, required.

  • Is able to demonstrate the capacity to work with a various range of people.

  • Local travel is required for this position; therefore, a clean and valid New York State Driver’s License – be actively licensed for at least one (1) year is required – and it is essential to have reliable transportation.

  • The capacity to enter the lives of clients and accept their limitations is a prerequisite.

  • Requires outstanding interpersonal and communication skills, with a strong attention to detail and excellent writing aptitude.

  • Ability to build strong working relationships with regulatory bodies.

  • Proficiency in various computer applications: Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint), Google Business Workspace Suite (Gmail, Google Docs, Meet, Sheets, etc.); and secure Internet practices.

  • Must have ability to pass required pre-employment background checks, including fingerprinting.
