Eastman Control Systems Technician in Kingsport, Tennessee

Responsibilities

This position provides technician level process analytics support plant-wide at the Kingsport, TN site.

Job duties and responsibilities include: - Role model in the areas of safety and safety awareness. Communicate and emphasize the importance of safe work behaviors to coworkers. - Actively participate in division and group safety programs. - Develop process analytical expertise and be an enthusiastic advocate for process analytical technology. Proactively evaluate technologies that offer advantages for Eastman. - Work closely with the rest of the Process Analytics technical staff, Engineering, Operations, Suppliers, Technology and Purchasing to design and implement process analyzer systems. - Install, configure, troubleshoot, diagnose, repair, and test a wide variety of complex electronic equipment and sample handling systems. - Collaborate with engineering to review, update and develop analyzer drawings including piping and instrumentation diagrams (P&IDs), cause and effect, and control narratives. - Ensure frequent and effective communications with all stakeholders on the status of process analyzer systems and maintenance work. - Review analyzer installations in the field using a formal checkout including a thorough safety assessment. - Proactively assess analyzer performance and reliability, generate improvement ideas. - Write, review, and approve field procedures and job aids for analyzer maintenance. - Ensure timely follow-up on internal partner complaints and concerns. - Train Process Instrument Analysts (PIAs) to maintain and troubleshoot analyzer systems. - Support occasional after hours work on analyzer systems to meet business needs. - Support Process Analytics PiVision system.

Qualifications

An Associates degree in electronics related curriculum or equivalent (from an accredited program); or a BS Degree in Computer Science with a background in electronics or instrumentation and process controls. The candidate must be Eastman Technician Qualified (Educational Requirements listed below).

Other preferred skills include: - Experience in troubleshooting and repair of industrial and/or analytical instrumentation. - A graduate of Eastman's Maintenance Mechanic (E&I) apprenticeship. - Possess good problem-solving, math, and science skills. - High level of initiative and be a strong team player with a winning attitude. - Capable of managing short-term and long-term measurement needs while meeting timelines. - Clear and effective written and oral communication skills. - Knowledge in computers, electronics, software logic, instrument troubleshooting and statistics.

Educational Requirements:

Engineering Technology — 23 hours — Examples to meet the 23 hours are: Measuring Principles, Control Principles, Advanced Measurement & Control, Instrumentation Design, DC Fundamentals, AC Fundamentals, AC Circuits & Devices, Advanced Electronics, Circuit Design, Test Equipment, Special Problems.

Physics/Science — 4 hours – Mechanics, Heat, Sound, Light, Electricity & Magnetism, Introductory Physics, General Physics, Biology, General Science

Mathematics — 3 hours - College Algebra, Geometry, Pre-Calculus, Calculus, Statistics, Math for Engineering Technologies

English — 6 hours - English Composition, Speech & Listening, Technical Report Writing, Grammar, Oral & Written Composition
