United States Fleet Forces Command OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY & HEALTH SPECIALIST in Kings Bay, Georgia

Summary You will serve as a OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY & HEALTH SPECIALIST in the Safety Compliance Group Code 108.3, located in the Occupational Safety, Health and Environmental Protection Office, Code 108, Executive Department (Code 100) of TRIREFFAC KINGS BAY. Responsibilities You will administer a safety and occupational health program in accordance with Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) requirements and command methodology. You will conduct safety and occupational health inspections and surveys to evaluate effectiveness of unit safety program. You will enforce safety and occupational health standards according to federal Occupational and Safety Health (OSHA), Department of Defense (DoD), and other installation policy and directives. You will recommend safety corrective actions to increase the effectiveness of the work environment and personal safety equipment. You will administer immediate corrective action during on-site inspections to prevent conditions that pose danger to life and property. You will encourage the use of safety devises and personal protective equipment to promote safe working conditions. You will analyze mishaps and hazardous conditions to determine origin, causes, and contributing elements to prepare written reports. You will investigate mishaps on personnel injuries and close-calls to prevent reoccurrence. You will conduct follow up inspections to determine that all unsafe conditions have been corrected. You will conduct Safety and Occupational Health surveys to evaluate the safety programs for risks or hazards in workplaces, facilities and operations (e.g., industrial, warehouse, maintenance, range, tactical safety). You will brief management on safety deficiencies identified and recommend corrective actions. You will Deliver safety briefs at orientation training sessions. Requirements Conditions of Employment Qualifications GS-09 Your resume must demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-07) or pay band in the federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector: Experience utilizing a wide range of safety and occupational health concepts, principles, and practices, laws and regulations. Experience independently conducting safety and/or occupational health inspections of workplaces and job sites (identifying hazards, assessing risks and prescribing accident prevention measures. Experience independently conducting comprehensive investigations of occupational accidents, illnesses, property damages, and/or motor vehicle damage to include near misses. Experience monitoring and/or verifying compliance with various safety and occupational health programs. Experience utilizing Occupational Safety and Health Programs (e.g. Navy Occupational Safety and Health Program (NAVOSH), Occupational Safety Health Administration (OSHA). Education Master's or equivalent graduate degree or 2 full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to such a degree or LL.B. or J.D., if related Equivalent combinations of education and experience are qualifying for all grade levels for which both education and experience are acceptable. Additional Information This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required.
