A Brief Overview

TheSurgicalAdvancedPracticeProvider team consists of Nurse Practitioners and Physician Assistants that provide 24/7 front line inpatient & consultative support to surgical patients at theKing of Prussia Hospital. TheSurgicalAPP will care for patients from the listedsurgicalspecialties - Orthopedics,General Surgery,Otolaryngology(ENT), Plastics, Urology, and Neurosurgery. TheSurgicalAPP will also provide procedural support, such as fracture reductions and laceration repair, in their consultant role for the hospital, including the emergency department. Orientation to this role will take place at the Philadelphia campus as well as King of Prussia Hospital. The role will also include off-shift responsibility. The off shift rotation schedule may include days, evenings, nights, weekends and holidays and will be determined by the clinical needs of the practice environment.

Under the supervision of/collaboration with an attending physician, the Advanced Practice Provider is responsible for the direct care of the population of patients that matches his/her scope of practice and skill set. This care is delivered in defined inpatient and procedural areas. The components of the role include clinical practice, consultation, professional development, education, and research.. The appropriate education will be determined by the scope of the role in a particular practice area. The clinical portion of this role will require increased level of accountability including managing a cohort of high acuity patients. In addition to managing patient care, the APP may be required to utilize invasive interventions and procedures to promote physiologic stability.

Responsibilities

Manage a cohort of patients, perform and document daily assessments, collect data, and analyze findings to inform family-centered plans of care.

Perform advanced procedures listed in the Scope of Practice and approved as a part of the credentialing process.

Serve as a consultant and educational resource to patients, families, students, and multidisciplinary healthcare team members.

Participate in scholarly activities and maintain required competencies, identifying learning needs and seeking appropriate educational offerings.

Address safety issues and demonstrate shared accountability for safe practice.

Education

Required: Bachelor's Degree - Physician Assistant

Preferred: Master's Degree - Physician Assistant

Education

Required:Master's Degree- Nursing

Preferred:Doctorate- Nursing

Ability to use computer and electronic medical records effectively

Licenses and Certifications

Required (upon hire in Pennsylvania):Registered Nurseand Certified Registered Nurse Practitioner (CRNP) (Pennsylvania) - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board

Required (upon hire in New Jersey):Registered Nurse and Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) (New Jersey) - New Jersey State Licensing Board

Required (upon hire): Specialty Certification as a Nurse Practitioner in area of education/subspecialty

Required (within 3 months): Prescriptive Authority - Pennsylvania State Licensing Board or New Jersey State Licensing Board (depending on location)
