Kilgore College Director of Network Administration in Kilgore, Texas

Position summary:

The Director of Network Administration is responsible for the overall planning, organization,

and execution of all network infrastructure and operations at Kilgore College. This position will

lead and mentor a team of network administrators and engineers to ensure the secure, reliable,

and efficient operation of the college’s network environment.

Position responsibilities:

  • Strategic Planning: Develop and implement a comprehensive network strategy that

aligns with the college's strategic goals and technological needs.

  • Network Operations: Oversee the day-to-day operations of the college's network

infrastructure, including LAN, WAN, WLAN, firewalls, VPN, and other network

components.

  • Team Leadership: Lead, manage, and mentor a team of network administrators and

engineers, fostering a collaborative and high-performing environment.

  • Network Security: Implement and maintain robust network security measures to protect

the college's data and systems from unauthorized access and cyber threats.

  • Performance Optimization: Monitor network performance and identify areas for

improvement to ensure optimal network speed and reliability.

  • Project Management: Plan and execute network infrastructure projects, including

upgrades, expansions, and new implementations.

  • Vendor Management: Manage relationships with network equipment and service

providers to ensure optimal service levels and cost-effectiveness.

  • Budget Management: Develop and manage the network administration budget, ensuring responsible and efficient use of resources.

  • Policy Development: Develop and enforce network policies and procedures to ensure

compliance with industry best practices and regulatory requirements.

  • Problem Resolution: Provide timely and effective resolution of network issues and

outages to minimize disruptions to college operations.

  • Collaboration: Work closely with other IT teams and departments to ensure seamless

integration of network services with other college systems.

  • Professional Development: Stay abreast of emerging network technologies and trends

through ongoing professional development and training.

Minimum Position Requirements:

  • Education: Associate Degree, Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a related field.

  • Experience: At least 5 years of progressive experience in network administration, with at least 2 years in a leadership role.

  • Certifications: Industry certifications such as CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent are highly desirable.

  • Skills: Strong technical skills in network design, implementation, and troubleshooting.

  • Excellent leadership, communication, and project management skills.

    Physical Demands and Work Environment:

  • Work is normally performed in a typical interior/office with occasional travel between campus locations.

  • No or very limited physical effort required; however, the employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 15 pounds.

  • No or very limited exposure to physical risk

  • May require occasional work outside of normal business hours to address network issues

or complete projects.

  • Compensation for this 12-month position is commensurate with experience.
