Description: A Manufacturing Engineer(Combustion Devices) job in Kent, WA is currently available at Belcan. As a Manufacturing Engineer, you will be responsible for supporting the manufacturing of various launch vehicle subassemblies. As a Development and New Product Integration Manufacturing Engineer, you will translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into consistent manufacturing processes which focus on quality and repeatability. The roll is multifunctional with knowledge needed in design, launch, and production of hardware, assembly and sub-assembly integration, inspection, process documentation, development of design-to-production best practices, machining, fabrication, welding, NDT, assembly and other various aerospace design and manufacturing processes.
Coordinate the introduction of developmental launch vehicle Combustion Device sub-assemblies from design, to supplier, or in-house fabrication, into the manufacturing environment, oversee assembly of machined and fabricated components, and integration/inspection of assemblies, and disposition of non-conformances.
Develop overall design-build process sequencing and make real-time adjustments as needed to deal with production issues.
Support developmental hardware assembly on the shop floor and troubleshoot issues that arise throughout the day.
Translate engineering intent, drawings, and configurations into consistent developmental manufacturing processes, work instructions, and work orders that direct touch labor on the shop floor.
Assess component design viability as it pertains to smooth transition into production.
Interrogate existing and new release drawings and assembly procedures to generate improvements to remedy gaps in product-process interaction details. Study negative interaction patterns for ways to eliminate poor results of all kinds. Specific focus on cost reduction, scrap reduction, lead time reduction, assembly ease, assembly speed, robustness of design, product protection/preservation, employee safety, etc.
Act as interface between machinists, fabricators, floor technicians, industrial engineers, design engineers and all internal/external suppliers to manage engagements, set expectations for product quality and delivery, and improve overall product and process results.
Lead production readiness reviews, identifying and correcting ambiguous developmental work details into clear, concise, transferrable manufacturing plans thus eliminating the 'hidden-factory'.
Provide assessments of design feasibility and design for manufacturability, review and final approval for manufacturing of assemblies and machined/fabricated parts.
Manage non-conformances and dispositions as appropriate to get stalled development components off-center and moving in the process toward completion. Observe patterns of non-conformances to recommend improvements and close gaps between design and build.
Lead and perform root cause analysis when non-conformances and escapes are identified and deploy corrective actions and mistake-proofing concepts.
Manage hardware configuration and maintain pedigree throughout the entire build process.
Participate in DFM/DFA and PFMEA studies to strengthen the feedback loop between design and build.
Use data to drive improvement decisions from DFM/DFA and PFMEA studies as well as historical actuals.
Create summary progress reports for group leads chronicling improvements made to all business metrics; quality, cost, delivery.
Bachelor of Science in Mechanical, Manufacturing, or Aerospace Engineering (other relevant fields may apply) from an accredited university.
5+ years of manufacturing engineering experience working in a production environment.
Mastery of engineering fundamentals for mechanical design and manufacturing methods.
Working knowledge of GD&T and drawing interpretation, work instructions, qualification testing, configuration management, discrepant material disposition, continuous improvement through Lean-6 Sigma methodologies, mistake-proofing product designs/processes, planning and budgeting with project management scope, cost/capability/yield analyses
Proven experience and successful track record developing/integrating/improving new products and processes from design to build. DFM/DFA expertise.
Strong written, personal, technical, and software skills such as MRP, Issue Tracking, Excel, Word, PowerPoint, Outlook, etc.
Ability to develop processes compliant to industry quality systems such as AS9100.
Must be a U.S. citizen or national or U.S. permanent resident
Flexibility with regard to occasional support of second shift.

Knowledge and experience using CREO and Windchill
Knowledge of metal fabrication and machining techniques, heat treatments, welding, non-destructive testing, plating and coatings, part marking, preservation and packaging, assembly and product testing, along with the potential interactions of these items with product design and supply chain processes.
Experience with the design and manufacturing of aerospace and/or space turbine engines
