Summary:

The Director of Nursing Perioperative Services is responsible and accountable for the delivery of safe, effective, patient centered care through the Perioperative continuum. The Director of Nursing Perioperative Services is responsible for the operation of the department and the measurement, assessment and continuous improvement of the department's performance.

The Director of Nursing Perioperative Services is the leader of the team accountable for 24 hour management of clinical nursing practice and patient care delivery, management of human, fiscal and other resources, development of personnel, and compliance with regulatory and professional standards, strategic planning and the fostering of inter-professional collaborative relationships within the Perioperative areas and throughout Catholic Health.

The Director of Nursing Perioperative Services is responsible for the operational and financial management of the Perioperative Services department including responsibility for daily management and long term tactical planning and system changes needed to optimize clinical operational and financial efficiencies. The Director of Nursing Perioperative Services works, in collaboration with the Director of Perioperative Business Services, to achieve financial and operational efficiencies. The position requires the individual to successfully demonstrate strong planning, organizational, critical thinking, influencing, and communication skills.

Responsibilities:

EDUCATION

  • Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required

  • Advanced preparation in Nursing with a Master's Degree in Nursing preferred

  • Current New York State RN Registration required

  • National certification through ANCC within 1 year of hire required

EXPERIENCE

  • Three (3) years surgical and/ or perioperative nursing required

  • Three (3) years progressive supervisory/ management experience required

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY

  • Interpersonal skills necessary to work productively and effectively with all levels of unit personnel, as well as physicians, families, visitors, and to manage the activities of a diverse group of professional, nonprofessional, and clerical employees

  • Possesses active listening and communication skills

  • Planning skills to develop goals and objectives in concert with those of the hospital and implements action plans to meet those goals

  • Analytical ability to identify opportunities for improvements as well as positive problem resolution

  • Teaching abilities to promote optimum orientation and continuing education of staff

  • Advance knowledge of Performance Improvement Initiatives and ability to identify areas for improvement and carry out measurable action plans

  • Budgeting skills to control fiscal operations of selected unit(s) and/or area(s) of responsibility, and to identify and explain variances

  • Current knowledge of health care trends and issues and relates same to hospital and work area environment

  • Computer literate

WORKING CONDITIONS:
