Performs any combination of the following manual duties involved in planting, cultivating, and harvesting crops on diversified-crop farm, such as broccoli, cabbage, sweet corn and squash.

Will stand for long periods, weeding and thinning plants using hoe with no damage to crops. Will bend, pull weeds, rocks and dirt. Will harvests crops using appropriate method, such as picking, pulling, and cutting. Crop harvesting will require 6-12 hour days, cutting with a knife, bending and carrying product, and lifting product into boxes. Product to be cut as directed. Duties may include packing and loading harvested products in the fields. Will select and hand harvest product for harvest to be hand placed in wagons and/or boxes, and participate in the inspection, grading, sorting, storage, and post-harvest treatment of crops and assist in field tallies.

May operate tractors, tractor-drawn machinery, and self-propelled machinery to cultivate and harvest crops. May load agricultural products into trucks, and drive trucks to market or storage facilities. May operate trucks or other multi-purpose vehicles to transport workers from housing to farm properties; haul tools, supplies, or crops; transport workers from place to place around the farm properties during the workday (including on public roads to reach fields); and/or transport workers to the grocery store or bank on an as-needed basis. May participate in running, maneuvering, or driving vehicles or mechanized equipment, such as forklifts or passenger vehicles. May maintain inventories of agricultural product and package agricultural product for shipment or further processing.

May direct and monitor the work of casual and seasonal help during harvesting, maintain operational records, record information about crops, and provide information to supervisors by telephone, in written form, e-mail, or in person. May clean on and around equipment or facilities and repair farm buildings.

Work is performed in the field for long periods of time, and requires extensive walking, standing, bending repetitively, lifting up to 60 lbs up to a height of 5 feet. Work required in fields when plants are wet with dew and rain, and will be required during light rain, snow, moderate winds, direct sun, high humidity and extreme temperatures. Temperatures in fields during working hours can range from 10 to over 100 degrees F. Workers will be required to work during occasional showers not severe enough to stop field operations. Workers should be able to do the work required with or without reasonable accommodations. Saturday work required.

Tobacco use is strictly prohibited during working hours. No smoking or tobacco use of any kind permitted in the fields, worker housing or commodity shed. Smoking is allowed only in designated smoking areas, and only during a break or meal period. This is necessary to protect against transmission of toxins and contamination from tobacco by-products. Employer reserves the right to discharge any employee found smoking or in possession of smoking materials, including cigarettes, cigars, snuff, chewing tobacco, pipe tobacco or smoking paraphernalia. Cell phone use prohibited during working hours, except during a bona fide emergency.

Requirements:

  • Workers referred against this order must have a minimum of three months verifiable experience in performing the tasks posted in this job order.
  • Exposure to extreme temperatures
  • Lifting requirement of 60 lbs.
  • Repetitive movements, extensive pushing/pulling, extensive walking and frequent stooping.
