Job Description:

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field of study or equivalent years of related work experience such as public relations, corporate communications, or journalism

  • Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, marketing, journalism or other related field preferred

Work Experiences:

  • 3+ years of related work experience in related field or role such as PR agency, corporate communications, media relations

Skills:

  • Ability to Manage projects effectively and work with cross-functional team members

  • Effective listening, writing and oral communication skills

  • Ability to prioritize, solve problems independently and work effectively under pressure when necessary

  • Detail oriented, proven organizational skills

  • Team player at all levels

  • Excellent customer service skills

  • Work independently and contribute to team projects

  • Proficient in MS Office products (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint), Microsoft Outlook or similar e-mail system, and media monitoring software

  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties

Responsibilities:

  • Partner with Public Relations Manager, Community Relations Manager, and Regional Marketing to ensure community programs, brand activations, and initiatives obtain maximum exposure via media and social media where necessary

  • Build and maintain strong relationships with key journalists and editors on local and national levels

  • Proactively pitch newsworthy company stories, initiatives, and expert insights to secure placements

  • Serve as company spokesperson in multiple forms of media, i.e. TV, print, radio, social media

  • Responsible for the training of media spokespeople including store directors and managers as well as key internal stakeholders

  • Assist with execution of strategic communications plans for seasonal campaigns, new store openings, product launches, and special events

  • Assist with developing and delivering a measurable earned media strategy that supports Academy’s growth

  • Responsible for all earned media and crisis communication efforts for assigned markets

  • Monitor media coverage to track public relations efforts, analyze its impact on brand perception, and report earned media metrics to cross-functional partners

  • Provide media and brand reputation counsel to internal stakeholders

  • Project management for new store openings and seasonal retail campaigns

  • Support the Public Relations Manager

  • Oversee distribution of press releases, media alerts, social media and other content to media

  • Required to learn company policies, procedures, and safety rules

  • Duties may change and team members may be required to perform other duties as assigned

Physical Requirements & Attendance:

  • Regular attendance required

  • Up to 25% travel with overnight stay
