At Academy Sports + Outdoors, our purpose is to make it easier for everyone to enjoy more sports and outdoors. The Distribution Center Maintenance Technician II is responsible for the entire facility with focus on maintenance of standard operating procedures, scheduled inspections, and troubleshooting various material handling systems and equipment. Through this important work, the Maintenance Technician II supports the Distribution Center in achieving Academy’s purpose.

Job Description:

Education:

  • Associates degree or trade school certification in mechanical, electrical, controls, mechatronics systems, or equivalent related work experience preferred

Work Experiences:

  • 2+ years of industrial maintenance, or related work experience, preferred

  • Previous warehouse experience preferred

  • Conveyor system experience preferred

  • Current forklift certification preferred

  • Welding and fabricating experience preferred

Skills:

  • Must have a “Safety First” mentality

  • Inventory management, equipment maintenance, data entry, and basic computer skills required

  • Good communication, organizational, time management and mathematical skill

  • Able to multi-task and work independently

  • Ability to anticipate and make decisions under pressure

  • Must be able to follow basic safety procedures and precautions due to physical risks

Responsibilities:

  • Provides support for the entire facility with focus on development and maintenance of standard operating procedures.

  • Performs preventative maintenance routines with proper documentation.

  • Troubleshoots electrical and mechanical problems related to all Material Handling Equipment (MHE).

  • Responds to and resolves equipment issues in a timely manner.

  • May require 24-hour availability for emergency response.

  • Assists in the purchase of spare parts and components necessary to minimize system downtime.

  • Maintains equipment maintenance logs.

  • May be required to work in confined spaces.

  • Works with external contractors for repairs or projects.

  • Will be required to handle hazardous materials.

  • Wears the proper safety equipment.

  • Performs other maintenance department duties as needed.

Physical Requirements & Attendance

DISTRIBUTION CENTER WORKING CONDITIONS: There are routine exposures to moderate heat, cold, moisture/wetness and unpleasant air conditions. The position involves considerable physical exertion. The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by a team member to successfully perform the essential functions of this job:

  • Use of manual dexterity

  • Regularly standing, walking and assuming awkward positions for long periods of time (i.e. bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, crawling, climbing, and working from elevated surfaces)

  • May require repetitive use of a keyboard at a workstation

  • Must be able to lift and carry 20 – 60 pounds on a highly frequent basis

  • Ability to work in mezzanines up to 50 feet high

  • Must be able to work in a non-air-conditioned warehouse environment

  • Acceptable level of hearing and vision to perform job duties

  • Adhere to company work hours, policies, procedures, and rules governing professional staff behavior

Other Requirements

This position may require successful completion of a substance abuse screening in addition to a Criminal Background Check.

Powered Industrial Truck Positions: Requires the operation of a Powered Industrial Truck that will be used to carry, push, pull, lift, stack, or tier materials. Extra precaution, safe truck operation and procedures must be followed to ensure safety and compliance with company policies. Team member must have an active PIT Certification (provided by Academy) to operate a Powered Industrial Truck.
