System One Engineering Manager in Kansas City, Missouri

Summary: Experienced Engineering Manager with a track record of leading successful projects and teams. Skilled in implementing best practices, driving operational excellence, increasing team productivity, and collaborating with other functions.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Directs the development, evaluation, and design of new products and enhancements to existing products. This includes the mechanical design as well as the electrical controls and programming.

  • Leads, manages and supports the engineering team. Assigns tasks, manages resources, and oversees department and project budgets.

  • Determines the need for training and talent development.

  • Develops, implements, and refines product development, testing, manufacturing, and product life cycle (PLM) management processes.

  • Support the company’s goals regarding inventory optimization, cost reductions, lead-time reductions, quality improvements, and on-time delivery performance.

  • Collaborates with sales, planning, purchasing, production, quality, service, and customers to ensure products operate safely and meet the customer’s expectations.

  • Works with production and quality to address defective products, determine the root cause, and take corrective action.

  • Oversees the creation of design standards, specifications, engineering change notices, manuals, and work instructions to improve the assembly, operation, and maintenance of the products.

    Other Responsibilities:

  • Travels to vendors and customer sites to investigate and resolve complex technical issues.

  • Observe all safety and security procedures for our area. Use equipment and materials properly and report potentially unsafe conditions to management. Your personal safety actions will be accountable in your performance review.

    Education and/or Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in mechanical or electrical engineering with 5+ years’ experience in industrial product design.

  • 1-2 years of proven work experience as an Engineering Manager or similar role.

    Computer Skills:

  • Experience with CAD software (preferably Solidworks and AutoCAD Electrical), PDM software, and PLC programming

  • Good understanding of Engineering Change Management within an ERP system (Enterprise Resource Planning). Microsoft Dynamics Supply Chain Management (SCM), Finance & Operations (F&O), or Microsoft AX experience is a plus.

  • Intermediate knowledge of Microsoft 365 (Word, Excel, Outlook, Teams)

    Other Skills and Knowledge:

  • Analytical skills for evaluating information carefully and solving complex problems.

  • Communication skills for overseeing staff and working with other management personnel.

  • Detail-oriented with the ability to catch minor errors that can result in major problems.

  • Organizational skills for keeping track of various budgets, employees, and schedules simultaneously.

    Physical Demands:

  • While performing the duties of this Job, the employee is regularly required to stand; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; and talk or hear. The employee is frequently required to reach with hands and arms. The employee must frequently lift and/or move up to 25 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision and ability to adjust focus.     Work Environment:

  • The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate. This position requires somewhat frequent exposure to hot and cool ambient temperatures, moving mechanical parts, heavy machinery, and possibly floating particles.
