Automation Engineer

Position Summary

Catalent Pharma Solutions in Kansas City, MO is hiring an Automation Engineer role. As an Automation Engineer, you'll be at the forefront of our digital transformation mission. You'll upgrade our manufacturing equipment software/controls systems, integrate new equipment, and build-out a manufacturing network including implementation of a Data Historian. You'll implement automation software platforms to boost operational metrics, enhance data integrity, and automate the cGMP data lifecycle. Reporting to the Associate Director of Process Engineering and Maintenance, you'll play a key role in our company's success and innovation.

This is a full-time position: Monday – Friday, 8:30am-5:00pm.

Catalent’s Kansas City facility is home to our Oral & Specialty Drug Delivery, Biologics Analytical Services and Clinical Supply Services businesses. The site provides a range of integrated services for oral solid dosage forms, from formulation development and analytical testing to clinical and commercial-scale manufacture. The Kansas City facility is a Center-of-Excellence for our Biologics Analytical Services business. Our talented team has over 25 years of experience providing analytical services for stand-alone and integrated biologics projects.

The Role

  • Lead the implementation of our company's digitalization efforts and make a significant impact on our manufacturing processes.

  • Develop User Requirement Specifications for new equipment and automation software platforms and help us modernize automation technologies.

  • Manage medium-sized capital projects focused on digitizing equipment and integrating automation software, from budgeting and scoping to commissioning and beyond.

  • Perform Factory Acceptance Tests (FAT) and Site Acceptance Tests (SAT) for advanced equipment and partake in troubleshooting activities as needed to support operations.

  • Manage the execution of Installation Qualification (IQ) and Operational Qualification (OQ) protocols for equipment onboarding, modification, and optimization.

  • Coordinate with contractors and ensure they follow safe work practices and guidelines, while also providing guidance and support as needed.

  • Collaborate with quality assurance and validation teams to ensure that equipment meets regulatory requirements and is validated appropriately.

  • Participate in technical investigations for deviations, and work to implement corrective actions when necessary.

  • Troubleshoot equipment downtime related to software and control system failures and be the first line of defense in ensuring minimal disruption to our operations.

  • All other duties as assigned;

The Candidate

  • A Bachelor’s degree in electrical/automation/software engineering, computer science, or a related field is required.

  • 2+ years of experience in the field is highly preferred.

  • Capacity to understands advanced machine functionality (e.g. PLC’s, servo motors, controls, pneumatic function) is a must

  • Ability to clearly and accurately document technical processes, procedures, and results is highly desired.

  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Outlook, Word, Excel, Internet Explorer is required.

  • Ability to work well with people of diverse cultures is a must.

  • Individual may be required to sit, stand, walk regularly and occasionally lift up to 20 pounds.
