Overview

The Genomic Medicine Center at Children’s Mercy Kansas City (CMKC) is expanding precision medicine research initiative in rare and common pediatric diseases. Together with this, programs for functional analysis of tissue architecture underlying these childhood diseases are being studied. We are looking for a dynamic and enthusiastic team member to contribute to this transformative research. The person will support research efforts for specified projects related to precision and genomic medicine in consultation with and supervised by Directors and Faculty members within the Genomic Medicine Center. Other duties include performing laboratory procedures, including implementation of new and established protocols related to genome sequencing and human tissue processing. The individual will also serve as a resource for ongoing research projects both within the Center and supported by the Center. Coordinates research projects with other Divisions, who request support from Center resources, including personnel.

Responsibilities

  • Supports collecting and processing of patient samples including tissue digestion, cell isolation and preservation as well as cell culture.

  • Conducts laboratory experiments for human DNA and RNA isolations utilizing bioanalytical approaches independently

  • Implements, develops and optimizes techniques in the laboratory including protocols related to genome sequencing (such as Single-cell RNA-Seq, ATAC-Seq, and IsoSeq)

  • Follow established experiment SOPs

  • Collaborate with Genomics Core facility, researchers and PIs from within the Genomic Medicine Center as well as from other Divisions

  • Collect and organize research data accurately and efficiently

  • Work efficiently as a laboratory team member

Qualifications

-Bachelor's Degree in Biological Science or Chemistry and 3-5 years of experience, preferably experience with molecular biology and related fields

-preferably experience with next-generation sequencing and human tissue processing and cell culture

Starting Pay

Our pay ranges are market competitive. The pay range for this job begins at $22.99/hr, but your offer will be determined based on your education and experience.

Remote Work/Work from Home

This position is not eligible to work remotely, which means that the person hired will be required to work onsite at one of our Children’s Mercy locations and may not work from home.
