Burns & McDonnell Aircraft Systems Director - Aviation & Federal in Kansas City, Missouri

The Aircraft Systems Director is responsible for the managerial leadership and direction of the Aircraft Systems Business Line, including but not limited to leading strategic business initiatives, client strategy, and overall team development and growth.The Aircraft Systems Director will lead the Business Line in a dynamic and profitable manner based on Burns & McDonnell's core values of client satisfaction, commitment, dedication, integrity, safety and overall outstanding service.

  • Manage development and execution of overall Aircraft Systems strategic business initiatives to achieve goals and objectives.

  • Provide direction and oversight of business development efforts in identification and vetting of prospective clients and projects. Responsible for business development activities aligning with business goals.

  • Provide leadership to the Aircraft Systems team; direct and coordinate the Department ensuring efficient and cost effective utilization of staff.

  • Manage Aircraft Systems business development efforts.

  • Oversee the development of department tools and work flows to increase efficiency in designs, specification development, and project execution for Department.

  • Direct oversight and management of Aircraft Systems budget and expenditure of funds.

  • Achieve stated targets and standards for Aircraft systems financial performance.

  • Provide industry expertise with respect to the competition.

  • Present monthly financial information to leadership including sales and revenue forecasts.

  • Approve strategies for cross-selling engineering services across the organization.

  • Responsible for ensuring alignment and support of across A&F Regional Offices, including client/market stratergy, resource coordination, staff development, project execution, and quality control..

  • Recruits, hires, develops, and retains outstanding employee-owners.

  • Responsible for conducting performance evaluation for selected department or direct reports.

  • Responsible for interpreting policies, purposes and goals of the organization to Department Managers.

  • Adheres and responsible for Burns & McDonnell Quality Control program.

  • Ensure compliance with company and site safety policies.

  • Responsible for diversity initiatives.

  • Performs other duties as assigned

Qualifications

  • Bachelor Degree in engineering, business or related degree from an accredited program. and 13 years relevant consulting experience, preferably in the Aviation and Federal industry and/or project management. Required

  • Expert experience in client and business development.

  • Expert experience in managing projects, which includes proposal development, contract negotiations, project planning, design team coordination & communication, budgeting, schedule management, and client coordination.

  • Expert facilitation, collaboration, organization, and problem solving skills.

  • Demonstrated success as to budget, savings and/or profit margins in completed projects.

  • Ability to thoughtfully and positively influence, lead and manage.

  • Excellent planning and analytical skills.

  • Must demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills; and the ability to clearly and effectively present complex information to all levels of employees, management, and clients.

  • Expert knowledge of project management methodologies and tools including the use of Microsoft Project or equivalent

  • Professional Engineer (PE) License Preferred
