Job Description Summary:

Manages projects for the Center for Survivorship and Patient-Oriented Research as well as the Director\'s research program. Assists Director with administration of policies, procedures, and projects, including with internal and external collaborators and employee relations.

Job Description:

Responsible for the management of a growing, complex and active University Center. Works with staff to provide direction in a variety of project-related functions including project development, implementation, coordination, oversight, finance, budget, grant administration and human resources. Formulate and implement the short and long-range goals for the Center and Director.

The University of Kansas Cancer Center is the only National Cancer Institute designated Comprehensive Cancer Center in the region, 1 of only 57 in the nation to receive this distinction. Patients gain access to the most promising therapies, cutting-edge clinical trials and world class research.

Required Qualifications

Education: Bachelor\'s Degree in business or scientific field.

Work Experience:

  • At least 5 years of experience in an academic research environment.
  • At least 2 years of managing direct reports.
  • At least 2 years of accounting/financial management experience.
  • Previous experience with grant management.

Preferred Qualifications

Education: Master\'s Degree in business or scientific field

Work Experience:

  • 6 or more years of experience in an academic research environment.
  • 3 or more years of managing direct reports.
  • 3 or more years of accounting/ financial management experience.
  • 4 or more year of clinical research experience.

Job Duties Outlined:

Serve as post-award grant manager by gathering and assisting in reviewing Notice of Agreements (NOA) ensuring that all employees with effort on the grant are notified, and compensation applied appropriately. Will also work with the KUMC RI to ensure budgets and justifications are correct for fund set-up and sub-award initiation.

Will be the prime source for determining grant progress report deadlines, contents and formatting. Ensuring that ample time is scheduled to complete and review. Will also work with the KUMC RI to request and monitor No Cost Extensions as needed.

Will be primarily responsible for the compilation of budgets and budget justifications for the Center. This includes communicating to all collaborating investigators, staff, and sub-award recipient institutions.

Primarily responsible for determining key indicators of program success and set up processes for obtaining metrics. Monitor, report on, and evaluate program effectiveness using qualitative and quantitative research techniques; investigate trends, and recommend and implement modifications to improve program effectiveness. This includes but is not limited to creating / sending surveys/ reminders to gather information and track progress on the Center and analyzing and summarizing results to compile each year\' annual progress report.

Financial manager for the Center and Director. This includes complete financial monitoring of all expenses, payroll allocations, reimbursements, invoicing. Will prepare regular reports for the Director and advise on fund allocation.

Grant financial manager for all the awarded grants and subawards under the Center and Director. This includes overseeing entire Cost Centers and multiple grants and gifts. Required to provide continuous reports to the Director and/or Principal Investigators of grant spending to ensure money is spent as budgeted.

Responsible for Center meetings (both regular/weekly and semi-annual/annual events). This includes but is not limited to assisting with meeting agenda preparation, managing tasks and allocating appropriate time to complete before deadlines, planning and booking all travel and ensuring mentoring time is set aside on a monthly basis for all graduate students and other mentees. May also be asked to manage schedules for other faculty reporting to this Director.
