Queen's Health System Biomedical Equipment Specialist - Biomed (Big Island, Full-Time, 40) in Kamuela, Hawaii

RESPONSIBILITIES

JOB SUMMARY/RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Performs a variety of maintenance, repair, installation, calibration and fabrication duties relating to highly complex, sophisticated, specialized equipment and systems.

TYPICAL PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Essential: standing, sitting, walking, stooping/bending, kneeling, crawling, climbing stairs, walking on uneven ground; squatting, twisting body, finger dexterity, seeing, hearing, speaking, carrying usual weight of 15 pounds; reaching above, at and below shoulder level; repetitive arm/hand motions; static gripping of an object for prolonged periods.

• Frequent: gripping of an object for prolonged periods.

• Occasional: Pushing/pulling usual weight up to 10 pounds of force, lifting usual weight of 15 pounds up to 25 pounds

• Operates electronic test equipment, hand and power tools, various office equipment.

TYPICAL WORKING CONDITIONS:

• Both inside and outside.

• Exposure to high amounts of electrical currents, chemicals, hazardous materials, communicable diseases, and body fluids.

• Exposure to x-ray and laser radiation.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION AND LICENSURE:

• Associate’s degree in Biomedical or Electronics Technology; or completion of the Department of Defense Biomedical Equipment Technician training program; or two (2) years training as a biomedical or electronic technician may be substituted for educational or training requirement.

OR

• Certified or Certified Eligible Biomedical Electronic Technician (CBMET) by Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI).

EXPERIENCE:

• In addition to the educational requirement, five (5) years work experience as a Biomedical Technician, preferably in an acute care facility.

• Experience as a lead person or practice in an area of specialized equipment.
