Kalamazoo County Government Director-Diversity, Equity & Inclusion in Kalamazoo, Michigan

GENERAL SUMMARY

The purpose of this job is to develop and implement the Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) Strategic Work Plan, develop, and manage comprehensive agency-wide DEI programming, and guide leadership and employees at every level of the organization for Kalamazoo County to cultivate a welcoming, diverse, and inclusive culture throughout the County's internal and external community. This position will provide training, technical expertise, coordination, and guidance for DEI committees and teams to build efficacy and cultural competency across Kalamazoo County Government.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develops, implements, and manages comprehensive agency-wide diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) programming.
  • Supervises the work of assigned personnel, including assigning and reviewing work, providing guidance, and conducting performance evaluations.
  • Provides training, technical expertise, coordination, and guidance for DEI teams to build and expand efficacy and cultural competency across County government departments.
  • Advises and assists County Executives, Court Administrators, and Elected Officials in designing and implementing DEI policies, processes, and procedures.
  • Designing and collecting quantitative and qualitative DEI data collection and analysis; sets benchmarks and measures the impact of DEI programming.
  • Participates in various meetings to promote equitable policies and procedures.
  • Convenes and facilitates resource groups for County employees and community stakeholders.
  • Coordinates training events on implicit bias, diversity in work settings, and inclusivity topics.
  • Proposes long-term internal and external DEI infrastructure needs.
  • Performs related work as required.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Business Administration, Public Administration, or a related field.
  • 5 to 7 years of related work experience in government, community and/or educational programs related to diversity, equity, and inclusion including supervisory experience.
  • Any equivalent combination of training, education, and experience that provides the required skills, knowledge, and abilities.
